Schumer goes nuts over alternative gun measure
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 15 April, 2013 | Dave Workman

Anti-gun New York Sen. Charles Schumer went so far overboard with remarks about an alternative measure to his background check bill during a weekend interview that it appears he is trying to demonize the package because it presents a more palatable option to his colleagues in the Senate.

It is Schumer’s “background check” bill that the alternative measure introduced by Senators Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey could derail this week, and the New Yorker clearly isn’t liking it. In a report broadcast by Westchester County’s News 12 and Newsday, Schumer alleged, “This legislation could change Times Square into the OK Corral.”

That is nonsense, according to Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, who has been taking a lot of heat in the past 48 hours for acknowledging that his group had a hand in creating the Manchin-Toomey bill. Gottlieb called Schumer’s comments “demonstrably false and delusional.”

“Once again,” Gottlieb said in press release, “Sen. Schumer cannot tell the difference between reality and his own extremist anti-gun rhetoric.”

Schumer’s remarks came coincidentally with an announcement in the Seattle Times that a gun prohibition organization calling itself the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility (WAGR) is planning to push a state-level background check bill in the 2014 legislative session, and if that fails, they will mount a citizen initiative to change state law.

Washington has one of the oldest state preemption statutes in the nation, and it has served as a model for similar laws around the country. If a federal background check law were to pass this year, it would moot any need for a state law change.

Schumer is a angry, dangerous man that should never been allowed in the U.S. Senate.

“Once again,” Gottlieb said in press release, “Sen. Schumer cannot tell the difference between reality and his own extremist anti-gun rhetoric.”

Very well said and that is also true for most anti-gun MOrons.

Someone get him on record with his statement that
Times Square will be the home of frequent massive shootouts if this bill doesn’t pass.

Also get him on record, with a signature, that, if it doesn’t within a 4 year timeframe, he will accept the penalty of being banned from all future political activity.

These ignorant, whining push overs are trying to take away Schumer’s favorite issue. His all or nothing position has always been at the core of his reelection and these, gutless, inebriated, pissers are ruining all that. They want to generate some theatrical pablum that only makes all the senate look like idiots who need to be removed from office. If this goes through, they will have taken his toy, accomplished passing an unworkable, ineffective, civil disarmament law and removed one more stark difference between those who seek freedom and those who wish to be subjects of the Dictatorship. Is there no senator with the requisite balls to point out the nature of this charade?

Schumer alleged, “This legislation could change Times Square into the OK Corral.”

Sounds like a very peaceful Times Square compared to what's there today...

The OK Corral stats are a mere 3 dead over the course of 142 years. The OK Corral was 1881. That's one dead per 48 years. How many die in Times Square these days yearly?

Why is Alan Gottlieb trying to help politicians infringe upon our rights??!!

Schumer was reacting to the House proposal for gun permit reciprocity among the several states not Manchin/Toomey. His OK Corral comment was his hysterical belief that anyone could go to Florida, get a CCpermit, come back to NYC and start shooting. The interesting question for the Schmuck would be if he’s down with a state refusing to recognize the same sex marriage of two NYers who moved to say South Carolina.

Shumer shows all the symptoms of someone who should never be allowed to own a firearm or even to hire an armed guard.

“This legislation could change Times Square into the OK Corral.”

The O. K. Corral gunfight involved a group of ranchers/cattle rustler types and a bunch of law enforcement types. So, as near as I can figure, Schumer must be advocating criminalizing possession of firearms by law enforcement officials.

It must be a New York thing. Earlier this year the New York state legislature made it illegal for cops to carry any weapon with a magazine that held more than seven rounds.

Then again, I think most Democrat politicians are crooks anyway. It might just be professional courtesy.

There are some people in our Government that should have their carbon sequestered.

Anything more I might say would probably not go over well in a public forum.

I have an idea for universal background checks. Have all state issued picture ID include immigration status and all other disqualifying attributes, and then have a national check system in place that checks for any other outstanding disqualifying events that might have occurred. Then allow anyone to run a check based on the ID, either by swipe, like "the cube" or by the ID number. Everyone could be checked by anyone, with ID they already have, it would be relatively instant, and there would be no need to record the gun, the serial number of the gun, make, model etc.

This is the only constitutional way I think a background check could be run.
