Immigration Bill Would Spark Surge of Legal Arrivals [Massive New Arrivals Depress Citizen Wages!]

Immigration Bill Would Spark Surge of Legal Arrivals The immigration debate often focuses on people in the U.S. illegally, but a reform bill's biggest initial effect could be a sharp rise in legal immigration.

By Brian Bennett and Lisa Mascaro April 13, 2013 WASHINGTON — While much of the debate over immigration has focused on the fate of the estimated 11 million people in the U.S. without legal authorization, one of the biggest immediate impacts of the reform bill being prepared in the Senate would be a sudden, large surge in legal migration.

The U.S. admits about 1 million legal immigrants per year, more than any other country. That number could jump by more than 50% over the next decade under the terms of the immigration reform bill that a bipartisan group of senators expects to unveil as early as Tuesday. The impact would be felt nationwide, but areas that already have large immigrant communities would probably see much of the increase.

The immigration package includes at least four major provisions that would increase the number of legal immigrants, according to people familiar with it. Some of the parts could generate as much controversy as the provisions dealing with those who enter the country illegally or overstay their visas, according to those with long experience of the politics of immigration.

Supporters say that higher levels of legal immigration would meet the U.S. need for certain kinds of workers. Increased legal migration also would reduce most of the incentive for illegal border crossings, backers of the plan say, and would allow border agents to focus on smugglers and people with violent criminal records.

I wonder if there are any U.S. citizens other than commie ‘RAT politicians who really think all this “immigration reform” BS is necessary.

Unless they are banned from access to social programs and hand-outs, ban anything called immigration reform.

I thought legal residents were supposed to be self supporting and if not removed? How about removing all taking any form of assistance first?
How about not taking any of the current illegals in as residents unless they can support themselves minus public assistance also for ten years?

Tale away the dole from non citizens and let’s see how fast they run here?

Unfortunately... many Free Trader Communist GOP support Illegal Alien Amnesty and unlimited “legal” immigration.....all in the guise of not enough labor

If you are running a business and need the government to find you non-American labor...you should not be running a business in the first place. There are plenty of Americans looking for jobs

No it would not, but this is typical of the 'thinking' we now get from our government: make the legal immigration numbers so high that practically anyone who wants to come to the US can come legally.

But this so-called plan just shows that they have no intention of controlling immigration, but are just to cowardly to admit it and called it what it is: open borders

Charge them for all services. $5,000 per year per kid in public school. The liberal democrats will be in a dilemma, mo' money or mo' aliens.

How about reversing the anchor baby law...that would stop illegals from coming here, having their baby just to become a US citizen.

I work at a major hospital and review patient charges from reports as one part of my job. Charges of 586K and up to care for illegals, no insurance, but come through the ER and we have to treat them. They apply and receive Medicaid. This is what our tax dollars are paying for...just makes me sick. Our Vets have to wait for treatment, get medical bills that have to be paid or else...etc.

You always get more of what you reward. The "immigration" bill would reward illegal behavior. thus .....

Univision News had a story last week about the border, and how many, many more people were trying to cross illegally so they could get in on the "amnesty." Uni actually interviewed Mexicans who are poised on the border ready to cross, and they were ALL saying, "We have to get in on this .....we would be stupid not to." Funny the English-language news organizations didn't bother to report that. Maybe because it reveals how stupid our Congress is.

The ‘legal’ workers won’t leave. They issue more visas now than they can deal with.

“We NEED a Visa program for foreign workers” - IT’s a LIE!

[snip]News this morning is that the ‘Amnesty Gang of Eight’ has warmed the hearts of the open borders Chamber of Commerce ( Yes, Grover Norquist is on their board of directors too!) and the AFofL CIO to produce yet ANOTHER visa program to be included in their ‘immigration reform’ aka AMNESTY.

Here are just some of the current Visa Programs in place today:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1271.html#overview
&Various sources
H-1B: Person in Specialty Occupation (85,000 per year!)
H-2A: Temporary Agricultural Worker
H-2B: Temporary Non-agricultural Worker (USCIS Announces 58 Countries Whose Nationals are Eligible for H-2A and H-2B Participation)
H-3: Trainee or Special Education visitor
L
O
P1
P2
P3
Q1
EB-5
Special Immigrant Visas for Iraqis
Diversity Visa program
U visa Abused Illegal Immigrants
V Nonimmigrant Visas
(The V visa is a nonimmigrant visa created to allow families to stay together while waiting for the processing of immigrant visas.)
J-1 Visa, Alien Physician Program
F1
Special Visas for Haitians, Columbians, etc.*
There are more than that, but that gives you an idea

Now...do you think we NEED more ‘guest workers’ and Visas????? REALLY?????

“How about reversing the anchor baby law...that would stop illegals from coming here, having their baby just to become a US citizen.”

Periodically a good conservative legislator will introduce such a bill. A few of us try to get the word out and get it some support, and it might get 2 or 3 hits. We’re in this mess because most people rather watch American Idol or the ‘What is GWB doing today’ thread.

most of the incentive for illegal border crossings, backers of the plan say, and would allow border agents to focus on smugglers and people with violent criminal records, sure, sure, sure. All talk and no action. Illegals will continue to come and come and come. 3rd world start having huge families and off to America with the better life defense for why I am here and than it starts all over again.Future ones will say, well the last illegals whom came are no better than us. Then they will say give the new illegal aliens in-state tuition so that they can elbow out undeserving American students. Give them driver licenses so that they can drive to jobs they can’t legally work.
