I doubt that this occurred on a highway meeting the definition in the law you just cited.

Pleading “nolo contendere” does not necessarily get you out of the points. You plead “no contest” which means the judge gets to decide your guilt or innocence after which he asses the punishment as he sees fit. Other’s results with this plea could vary.

I'm sorry but being cited for failing to use a turn signal is not out of line. He's a kid, he screwed up and endangered others. Hopefully he will use his signals in the future. The guy behind should have received a careless driving ticket. The horn thing is just stupid. You can probably plea bargain it all down to a no point violation, if your son's record is otherwise decent. As a teen who was a maniac behind the wheel, I spent many days in court for both tickets that I deserved and others that I did not. Taking it to court almost always ends with a better outcome than just paying the fine. It's largely about revenue, they don't want to spend more on it than it's worth.

Bingo, neither have I. New traffic laws in Ohio are normally very well publicized and this is the first I have heard of this. New laws usually carry a three to six month period of being phased in where you should begin to obey it but it won’t be enforced and you will not be ticketed. I think the young man misunderstood the officer.

My son is a very cautious driver, perhaps too cautious, and has never had a ticket. What probably happened was my son was too slow to pass the garbage truck and the guy behind him was in a hurry. He says he looked both ways and all was clear and the other driver came out of nowhere which means the guy gunned it to get around them.

My anger at all that is wrong with this country is seething over.

Got ya. On Wednesday a guy driving a large pick up ran a red light, plowed into my truck and then kept on going. Fortunately a good guy followed him and called 911 with his location when he stopped. When I asked what he would be charged with, the answer was nothing today. It's the law that since he was involved in a collision, they can not arrest him, question him or charge him with anything until he is completely checked out at the hospital. That leaves me stressing for 2 days about whether he even had any insurance. The jerks get all the perks.

We’re all living in crazy town. Hope things work out for you. I just called the garbage company and they’re tracking down the driver who witnessed the accident and are going to call me back. Honk Honk!

The judge turned off the tape recorder when I said I was unsure how to plead because of the points.

He said in this case he would impose a moderate fine and no points.

Asked if I now knew how to plead, I said yes. He turned on the tape recorder, I pleaded no contest, he assessed a moderate fine and no points.
