Home Depot Co-founder: Obamacare Will ‘Kill Off’ Small Business

Retired Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus declared to Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview that “Obamacare is going to kill off small business.”

“If [employees] are thrown out of their medical plans now, where they’re covered in a good plan and thrown under the bus, they’re going to be destroyed,” Marcus said on Thursday. “If, in fact, they don’t stay as full-time employees but go to part-time employees, they’re going to be destroyed.

He talked to Newsmax at the Job Creators Alliance Free Enterprise Leadership Summit in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

“People have to understand that the villain is not their employer; the villain is the U.S. government,” Marcus added. “Obamacare is the capper. That’s the bullet to the temple.”

Marcus, who retired from Home Depot in 2002, established the Job Creators Alliance two years ago. The nonprofit group seeks to advocate for entrepreneurs and small-business owners.

Where I lived in CA the local gov’t made HD allow the day laborers hang out in their lots. I live in a town in TX now and it doesn’t exist not in this town anyway.

You oughta check your dictionary of logical fallacies to see a diagnosis of the connection you have made between global warming and Home Depot.

And while at it, a reality check on how big business corrupts political process via bribes, tax breaks to, yes, to drive out small business in cities and suburbs.

It's called capitalism

It's called corrupted democracy, or shortly banana republic. How do you think the big boxes got there if not by bribes (in this banana republic called: campaign contributions or tax breaks), for zoning changes, for road access, utilities, etc?

You obviously have a bur up your ass about HD and you refuse to understand that Bernie’s comments about Obama Care and small business have zip zero nada to do with your misplaced anger at this company. American citizens, in liberty, deciding where to shop, where to work, where to invest, made HD - and many other big buinesses that were once small businesses. Yes, they often become corrupt cronies once they are large, but that’s not Bernie’s part in HD history and has nothign to do with his Obama Care message.

Besides that, you are an economic illiterate of the highest order. You sir, are a socon lofo. (new term)

Irony escaped?

The jobs for illegal immigrants “created” by HD, since I have to be explicit and supply a laugh track, are the jobs they get by standing in front of HDs and getting picked up by contractors and ordinary citizens look it for casual laborers.

I happen to have a Ph.D in economics. And you can’t even observe simple rules of courtesy on this forum. As for logic, see that dictionary I recommend. And Germany was destroyed only according to your statement.

PhD in economics? Like Tim Geithner? Like Ben Bernanke? I’m talking about how real life economics works, not how idiot liberals misapprehend it. I’m not surprised at all you have a degree. You no doubt have never built a business from scratch.

Your Germany example is bizarro academia nut stuff. Get out of the house once in a while. Your degree don’t mean beans next to Bernie’s life story, excpet to prove, once again, that life experience is correct and academic theory very often flawed.

Beware! It’s impossible anymore to acknowledge simple reality without being accused of hating something, some negative aspects of that reality, and of being an idiot by self appointed Internet experts who have an answer for everything, and will mock anything you say, true or false, only because the ignorant fools that they are they have to win and prove to themselves their superiority! It’s really an easy to diagnose psychiatric syndrome. (I happen to have a double Ph.D.)

There are two ACE Hardware franchises in my neighbourhood. One is thriving, the other just surviving. However, all the lumberyards selling inexpensive lumber have closed. (HD’s lumber is pricey.) There is one big lumberyard and builder supply store that is very expensive and is used by contractors (Mexican day laborers standing on corners near it and 2-3 blocks from it, city providing porta-johnnys for them), who I suppose just charge their clients for that overpriced lumber. For my hardware needs I always go to ACE, where I can get excellent service and advice. Advice @ an HD? From who? An affirmative action hiree? (Oh, and the ACE, which has been around for decades, employs the handicapped.)

We'll go with "naive" as your choice. It's the only polite way to say it. So, HD and Lowes are responsible for "creating" jobs for illegals because they attract contractors to their store by selling building materials? It's scary what goes on in some people's heads...

The market is the market and I don’t go along with trends in retail. Won’t buy an appliance for anything can’t even get a decent pair of shoes, forget furniture. My antiques, which I inherited or paid very little for, have made it through 14 moves including overseas with no drama stories. They’re worth a lot, they’re not for sale. They have to be taken care of and repaired. Just like the lawn, the walls, the house etc. Hardware stores that help with all of that have been pushed out by HD who is now whining.

Pshaw

Are you obtuse, or just forgotten how to read. HD is not “whining.” Bernie Marcus is no longer HD and he’s not whining. He’s made his. He’s giving back by fighting for an economy that will allow FUTURE Bernie Marcus’ to emerge. Your judgmentalism combined with your total lack of understanding of this issue or economics in general is very unimpressive. It is also scary: when so called conservatives like you are so liberal on economics, it just shows why the country is toast. Go take your antiques and camp out at your nearest Occupy Wall Street rally. You’ll be philsophically right at home.

There are two blithering idiots on this thread that are scary indeed.......when we have “lo fos’ of this caliber on the right, plus the entire left, any notion of a liberty based economy is a goner.

HD killed off small business in our area.

Additionally, they support gay rights:

October 16, 2012

This past weekend (Oct. 13-14), Home Depot set up a booth at the Atlanta Gay Pride festival. They have done this for many years and continue to support events that push “gay” marriage.

AFA staff confirmed Home Depot was at the event and took this photo (right). We saw no business purpose for the booth. They had a spinning wheel game and were giving out small toys and prizes in celebration of the homosexual event.

One of the main purposes of “gay” pride events is to push for the legalization of marriage between men who

What is your problem? This article has nothing to do with HD today. It’s about how the founder explains the opportunity to build something like this is not avaialble today thanks to Obama Care. How long will you continue to be so blitheringly ignorant? This is not about that. Bernie is not responsible for that. He is retired. He is trying to help save the country, which he clearly does not need to do, since he is personally rich enough to escape to wherever he desires.

Your obsession with the gay lifestyle is screaming about you!! This article has zip zero nada to do with that!! And you still don’t know a thing about economics.

Conservatism supports capitalism, not greed. Also, conservatism includes maintaining and preserving resources.

Conservatism supports capitalism, not greed.

Conservatism supports liberty, of which the free market is part. And your greed comment tells everybody that you are no economic conservatism, nor do you understand the dynamics of growing a business. You have just outed yourself as an economic liberal. I think your obsession with HD's gay stance has outed you on that as well....I'm done with you.
