Why Are the Feds Trying to Identify All Gun Owners in Missouri? (Just concealed carry!)
National Review Online ^ | April 11, 2013 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 04/11/2013 2:37:49 PM PDT by neverdem

They keep telling you they have noting but good intentions, that to worry about the feds coming for your guns makes you part of “the black helicopter crowd.” But then things like this happen: In Missouri, federal investigators have demanded and obtained from the state government — apparently twice — the entire list of Missouri concealed weapon permit holders.

As Matt Drudge notes, the Columbia Daily Tribune reports that in November 2011 and January 2012, the state highway patrol asked for and received the list of about 185,000 concealed weapon permit holders from the motor vehicle department — the only state agency to store all the names, because an indication that one is a permit holder is noted on driver’s licenses. The information is supposed to be held confidentially by the state, but it was turned over — once on-line, once on a disk — to the highway police, which then proceeded to share it with the federal Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General. State senators trying to get to the bottom of what happened, have been told there was no written request for the information. The state highway patrol says, “The information was provided to law enforcement for law enforcement investigative purposes” — not a very enlightening explanation of why every single licensed concealed weapon owner needed to be investigated by state and federal police.

Rob Schaaf, a Republican state senator who is pursuing the matters summed it up this way: “Now we know two things. We know that somebody out there, probably in the federal government, wants the list of all the concealed carry holders in Missouri. We know that now. We know one other piece of information – we know the [highway patrol] department is actively and purposefully concealing that information from us.”

This outrage in Missouri needs to be known far and wide, IMHO.

I've been posting it on every Yahoo comments section dealing with the proposed gun laws.

Thanks for the elderly man bit in New York - will somehow work that in as well.

Stop playing defense and bring on the offense.

I like it.

"Prosecute the State Patrol involved, put them in jail!"

Why? Did they offend a board member of a bank?

Thank you for pinging me to this, neverdem. This **IS** an outrage, and as a Missourian, I intend to ask my state legislators about this.

Our former House member was strongly pro-gun with a good track record fighting the last Missouri law enforcement outrage a few years ago with identifying “extremists” by their bumper stickers supporting certain Republican candidates. Our new House member probably agrees with him on everything, but he's been in office barely three months and has limited influence. Sometimes term limits hurt conservatives, too.

No, no, and no!

I realize you're probably kidding. But the Second Amendment applies to **ALL** Americans, regardless of race or politics. We need to remember that.

An inner-city black gun owner, regardless of who he votes for, is just as much of an American citizen as any white rural or suburban gun owner.

When they start abusing you really hard, you know you must be getting close. When you actually get thrown in jail, bingo, that's because you've finally connected and they need to stigmatize you as a criminal to protect themselves (see "Bill Clinton: Political Career" in Wiki).

Of course, there's one more step. (See "Arkancide".)

It has become clear my answer to any question coming from government agents of any stripe, or anyone collecting any information which may be reported to any government agent will be, “I have the right to remain silent as anything I say can and will be held against me in a court of law. I have the right to speak with an attorney and to have the attorney present during questioning. If I so desire and cannot afford one, an attorney will be appointed to me before questioning. I am not waiving those rights.” A submission of a document containg that statement, signed and notarized, would fulfill the same purpose.

Remember if you should decide to take this advice that I am not an attorney nor have I played one in any television or film production. (I did tell Joe Pesci to “Get out of the truck.” I have, however, slept at a Holiday Inn or two.

My Dad, who is nearly 96 years old and lives with us, shot a wild turkey (with a pistol) in our back acreage yesterday. I’m roasting it this weekend. I will challenge anyone who tries to take his guns away. He can’t remember what he had for breakfast, but he knows and respects his weapons. And so do I.

Better believe that there’s a plan on the hussein drawing board somewhere to confiscate them ALL.

We never more seriously needed a real patriot to stand up and deliver that document .....

Gun control only works if you are stupid enough to play by the rules of your enemy. No more communist, socialist, fascist dictatorships will be allowed to strip people of their right to defend themselves from tyrannical governments. It’s US vs. them. Which side are you on, and who do you want to win?

The US Constitution must be defended at all costs. It’s the ONLY thing that separates us from them!

They are definitely trying to grind us down.

It is the petty torments of the mentally disturbed. This is the pattern of the mentally ill abuser. They torment those who are under their sway, not the big abuse....yet. They run the “death by a thousand paper cuts” strategy until the bettered person reaches a certain point of saturation and boils over, then the tormentor moves in for the final crush.

That is what the communists are doing right now.

They are angling for the final crush. They think, that we believe, that they have the upper hand or that we have no way out. Yet in the final clear headed examination the tormentor has nothing.

So look for it. in the next year or two, I would say the crush will occur before the mid-term elections if the RATS are going to lose and lose big.

I know this because I have lived it with a mentally ill family member. I have seen it before.

It’s also time to push for repeal of the 1968 gun bill. And the 1937(?) gun bill. Hell, if you want a bazooka I’m all for you. Tank? Hell yea. In our past history, if you could afford it, then you had the same, or better weapons than the military. I’m damn tired of begging for my rights that are guaranteed right there in the Constitution, Second by God Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America!!

Say it loud and say it proud!! Shall Not Be Infringed!!

I agree with everything you are saying. I have called, emailed, posted on facebook, but no one is LISTENING. They are just gleefully forcing more crap legislation on us. And of course sending us the bill for it. Its INSULTING!

Missouri is the only one known about and in kinda in the news.
I suspect the communists solicited every state for that same list.
We just are not aware of it.

Buy guns like criminals do. You are now a criminal.

Good idea, then you won't have to worry about the gun grabbers coming after your guns.

As we all know the grabbers aren't concerned about criminals having guns, it's the ordinary citizens they want disarmed. They won't stop until they achieve their life's goal of destroying the liberty our forefathers won for us by force of arms. A great many of those arms were owned and used in combat by the citizen-soldiers themselves, hence the 2nd Amendment's high ranking in the BORs amendments.

“People will simply hide their guns.”

Don’t you understand? When you have to hide your weapons you have already lost! Or, you are waiting for the right time to strike. Never, ever resist in the face of overwhelming odds. But, be assured, when you are faced with burying your weapons or resisting, then if you hide them, then you have already capitulated. You can always get more weapons. You can’t get your dignity back.

I know. Rather than give up my comfortable life (really, not that comfortable) I gave up my weapon. Through the courts, I got my weapon back. No one was hurt. I was “this close” to causing a shit load of pain to me and another several families, for the lose of their fathers. I wouldn’t have been my fault. I would have been just defending my rights. But, it is a terrible decision to have to make. Don’t know if I made the right one. As of this time, I think I did. But times change.

When the final straw-that-broke-the-camels-back comes then maybe we will all realize it and band together. I think not. It’ll be a gradual decline, as you can see now, before the SHTF. And, maybe you? Me? Someone else here, will be the Martyr.

Or, maybe the Government will just go back to obeying the Constitutional limits that are imposed on them.....NAWWWW!
