NK doesn’t have much of an air force.
They do have over 13,000 artillery pieces of the 170 mm and 240 MLRS variety. Much of it within range of Seoul.
They also have about a million men in their army, not the best equipped but willing to walk the 35 miles to Seoul.
They also have about 300 short range Scud type rockets. To which they have the capability of loading their large stockpiles of chemical and bio weapons. They have large stockpiles of the worst chem and bio weapons on the planet. These can hit all of SK and Tokyo quite easily.
440 modern aircraft are also based near the DMZ capable of carry chemical and biological weapons. On March 29, 2012 report came out that KPAF had dramatically increased the number of flights to 650 per day. There Air Force is not as modern, but they have been moving up all their assets to the DMZ to support a ground invasion.
What most people don’t understand is that the US Troops on the DMZ are not there to stop the invasion (not nearly enough), American troops are there to provide a canon fodder trip wire. To cross the DMZ you have to kill Americans, meaning you are dead when we respond. If Kim Jong-un believes Obama is too weak to respond, South Korea is his.
I'd like to join Commander Riker in applauding your most excellent post:
Kim can kill millions but he can’t take South Korea without help from China.
Those 440 aircraft won’t make it past the DMZ. There is an amazing amount of air defenses on the DMZ and coastal areas which will certainly take out his dated aircraft.
Oh no...I'd shrink back in total fear. I am a coward at heart. Come and ask people who know me.
Notice how they say WATCHCON. Not DEFCON, but rather WATCHCON.
DEFCON refers to armed forces readiness posture. The highest DEFCON alert in recent times was on 9-11, when we went to DEFCON 3.
WATCHCON refers to ONLY joint reconnaissance efforts between ROK and US forces.
So what happens is, we’re only watching, not doing anything about it.
This is kabuki theater.
Partay on...!
Hold it folks, nobody picks their nose...
keyboard commando in other words
If he attacked Detroit instead, would anyone notice?
Somehow I can’t help but think this is based on some kind of behind-the-scenes agreement between this government and the North Koreans to give Obama some political cover as gun control, budget and amnesty legislation go forward.
I'm a bit further away from Austin than you are, but don't know how accurate the missles are that un has.

This is the scary part.
Those aircraft will not be launch until 19,000 artillery until have started bombarding the capital. I know you have confidence, but remember only one side will be playing fair and the good guys are hamstrung.
Have a buddy going to China this week. Just north of the NORK border.
He asked me to call him if it got hairy. He is a bit isolated at his current job site, and wants to know what is going on before he flies out.
This one isn't. The next one might be.
I hope we are lucky enough to see it blow up on the launch pad if it does...or one of those 3 feet off the ground launches. I even wonder if they have a range safety officer or someone who can terminate the launch if it goes in the wrong direction...say North? Lots to wonder about...
I’ll second that applause...with the exception of the military. I still believe the majority of its leaders have not succumbed to the wussification the last 5 years or so ha foisted on hem. I hope.
This one isn't. The next one might be.
I hope you're right. Would appreciate any insight as to why you say it's not.
My son is going to Seoul in a few weeks. He is in his 20’s and of course thinks he is invincible. I am scared to death.
