More than half of Colorado's elected sheriffs are planning to mount a legal challenge to the state's sweeping new gun restrictions.
The Denver Post reports that 37 of the state's 62 sheriffs will sue to overturn laws passed in March that set limits on ammunition magazines and expand background checks for firearms.
Weld County Sheriff John Cooke told the paper that the proposed lawsuit would argue the laws violate Second Amendment rights. He said the lawsuit would likely be filed within the next few weeks.
The group County Sheriffs of Colorado has opposed a ban on high-capacity magazines, and about a dozen Colorado sheriffs spoke against the new laws during President Obama's visit this week. The laws take effect July 1.

Cooke told the Post he anticipates more sheriffs will join the lawsuit, though some of his colleagues reportedly oppose the legal effort.
San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters told the paper he doesn't think the newly-passed laws will be effective but he won't be signing on to the lawsuit.

Colorado sure isn’t like Utah. Only 37 out of 62 vs 27 out of 28. No wonder CO is in trouble.
Utah is lucky that all those migrating Kalifornians didn’t stop there, but kept going a few hundred miles East, or the Utahans would be in trouble.

Actually, that isn’t true! Utah’s housing prices have skyrocketed thanks to people from CA and AZ moving there or buying vacation properties ( not unlike Colorado). The big difference is that these folks are in large measure Mormons.

It will probably increase. Only probably definite no’s would be Denver, Boulder, maybe a couple of the nutty mountain communities, Breckenridge, Aspen, Vail.

Well in my original home state of WI, I believe only 2 sheriffs (one of whom was Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clark) have signed a U.S. wide petition to oppose attacks against the 2nd Amendment, and I believe that in my current home state of MN (home of Keith Ellison CAIR House member and buffoon Sen Al Franken), I am not aware of any MN sheriffs on record as opposing attacks against the 2nd Amendment.
