Two boys allegedly kidnapped in Florida by their father turned up with their parents in Cuba Monday, officials said...

...the boys were taken by their parents, Joshua Hakken, 35, and his wife, Sharyn Hakken, 34, who had lost custody of the children after Joshua's drug-possession arrest in Louisiana.

“kipnapped” my eye. They were kidnapped by the state and placed with gross-muter, then rescued by their parents. Interesting development. I was wondering about this case earlier this morning.

Panama doesn’t have an extradition treaty with the US either, and would be a better place to live.

Why did the parents lose custody?

Well, what I read had something to do with pot, in a small amount, and probably the Division of Families and Children got involved, gross-muter made her move (which gross-muters do, thinking they are the end all and be all matriarchs of the fambly), and I speculate the parents told the Division of Families and Children to get out of their lives that they had no intention of jumping through their many hoops, eg. random UAs, drug and alcohol evaluations and couneseling, psychological evaluations, reunification specialists, couples counseling, etc. to get the children back.

With the true parents being educated engineers you can be sure they already pre-arranged jobs, work or contracts in Cuba. There skills should be in high demand down there. They will be set for as long as it might take to ‘fix’ the America abomonation.

No judgment on the particulars of this case, BUT, it sure is a great example of the utility of even a small sailboat as an "escape pod."

The USCG, Customs, local LE, the whole darned world was looking for one single 25' blue-hulled sloop, and it made it from Tampa to Cuba undetected.

Kind of pops the bubble of Uncle Sam's Impenetrable Radar Dome of Doom.

He hated Obama, so he fled to Cuba?

You know, some people are nuts.

Maybe they were lost and didn’t realize they were in Cuba. Who would deliberately flee to Cuba?

OTO they went to Cuba. From what I've read that's sort of like hiding in the holding tank of a porta potty unless you have a fair amount of money. I do enjoy that the whole child protective services/state kidnapping organization lost this round.

I’m a bit less enthusiastic about a 2 and 4 year old being with adults who would tie up grandmom, and run off to Cuba.

There seems to be a lot we don’t know about this couple, I mean, how many parents lose their kids permananetly because of a little reefer possession and nothing else?

Making no judgments on the merits or lack thereof of the parents, since as you say we don't know the particulars. Just don't like the government sticking it's nose in everything and enjoy seeing them lose without resort to the stacked court system from time to time.

Right....so this upstanding father tied up the person who had legal custody and fled to Cuba....father of the year in your book, right?

If there were legitimate reasons to fight the state on this the method is NOT to flee to a totalitarian state. How moronic.

“Information they are in Cuba”..... A great red herring I would think.
