Pray for Our American Heroes and Nation (4/8/13)
April 8, 2013 | Faith

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: heroes; military; nation; pray
Holy God,

You and Your Word are inseparable. You and Your Word are everlasting. Your truth endures to all generations, and yet many in this nation now consider Your Word to be outdated---especially when it comes to marriage. Father, we cannot snuff out the truth of Your Word, but we have succeeded in ignoring it when it does not serve our purposes. How foolish we are as a nation, Lord. Though we established our country in Your unfailing truths, we have moved far away from them. Father, we ask for Your forgiveness and Your help in guiding us back. Too many times we as Christians have remained silent and have allowed the screeching voices of untruth to prevail. Help us, Father, to preserve the precious nature of the country You have given us and to defend the basic family unit that You have prescribed for us. Save us, Lord. We need Your Word to guide us back onto the path and to help us to remain there.

Protect our military men and women as well as their families. Help them to feel the honor and love of a grateful nation, Father, and may they be comforted during their time of service. We confess that You are their Keeper---their shade upon their right hand. You will preserve them from all evil; You will preserve their souls.

We thank You, Father, because You are good to all and Your tender mercies are over all Your works. May we bless You every day, Lord and praise Your Name for ever and ever. May our mouths speak Your praise and may all flesh bless Your Holy Name. Help us to host Your presence this day, Father, that Your Will may be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Amen

Joining in prayer for our nation and our heroes.

It’s been said, All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. May we continue doing what we can, especially in prayer, to delay judgment and turn our hearts to God.

Guard Your Brand

April 8, 2013

A popular clothing retailer requires that its sales clerks dress like the models in the store windows who advertise its clothes. This practice is referred to as “guarding their brand.” The idea behind it is that shoppers will be more likely to purchase clothes because they will want to look like the people they see wearing them.

In a consumer-oriented culture, it’s easy to be seduced into thinking that we can “buy” acceptance by wearing the things that beautiful people wear. Retailers would have us believe that looking good will make us desirable.

Sometimes we even convince ourselves that we can win followers for God by making ourselves attractive to the world. But the Bible is clear about what’s really important to God. He wants us to look like Jesus in our character. In a sense, Jesus is our “brand,” for we are being conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). We attract others to Christ when we put on His attributes, which include tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering (Col. 3:12), and, above all, love (v.14).

Instead of polishing and protecting our own image, we need to be guarding and reflecting the image of God, which is being perfected in us through Christ.

O to be like Thee! blessed Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. —Chisholm
One of the Spirit’s roles is to form the likeness of Christ in us.

Read: Colossians 3:1-14

Above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. —Colossians 3:14

Yes and Amen! Thank you for leading us today in this very important work.

2 Thess. 2:1-6: Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.

I believe we are restraining this "man of sin" by our prayer warfare.
