In the late 80s in Lago Vista, TX the international bicycle people were training (they do every year) and I was getting off work at 10p or so and one cat had a blue training uniform
on with CCCP on his back! A real, live Russian!

I was 19 or so and had a drink or two before leaving work and
of course had to try to mess with him. He kept his eyes down
and walked straight ahead, totally ignoring me.

I’m not surprised given the time.

With the joint US-USSR space mission everything was being presented from both sides as “a step forward” with both countries, the Russians were being shown a good time when they were here.

The Russians then went on the march under Peanuts Carter, until Reagan put them in their place in the 80’s. Not a good time to be a Russian.

We see them here every year. My cousin's husband works the races every year and my inlaws live on the race route.
