What kind have you been using? Not necessarily the brand, but is it a chelate?
I use Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) to fertilize my garden & flowers. It’s a lot cheaper than than Miracle gro and whatnot.
Dr. Oz is frothing at the mouth. He’ll know what we should buy.
Foods high in magnesium

I’ve just started taking it. After reading this, I’m making sure my husband is taking it too!
I believe ( if it hasn't been discovered already but not mentioned because cancer is a big money maker) that low magnesium is also the cause of most cancers.
An almond (major magnesium food) or two a day, and you'll never have to fear cancer. They knew this back in the 1930's. Like aspirin, almonds can't be patented though. There's no money to be made by the disclosure.

Sounds like it’s easy to get enough if you eat nuts, lots of dark green vegetables and whole bran...
but hard to get enough if you don’t!
Maybe supplements are a good idea.
Is there a link to any new original research leading to this conclusion? I looked at the link and it appears to me that this is based on a review of the literature that the author, who directs a magnesium research and outreach center in Hawaii wrote. Did I miss something?
I’m not dismissing the importance of magnesium, or any other mineral, vitamin, or nutrient in health, but I wasn’t able to find anything new here.
Magnesium is a mineral that is stored in the body, so after taking it for a while the body will store excess intake on the surface of the bones for later use. You can overdose on Magnesium, it is a powerful laxative when you take over 500mg in a dose. Other than sprints to the bathroom, it is not harmful though.
However adding magnesium to your garden can be a problem. You should test your soil to check its magnesium content. Here in Alaska the soil in the valley already has high levels of magnesium, so much so that using regular quick lime will cause magnesium poisoning in the soil. Once you get too much magnesium in your soil your screwed, It will retard growth not boost it and there is no way to get it out.
I reviewed a couple of articles that said funeral homes were associated with deaths from heart disease, cancer, diabetes ...well ,just about everything.
Well I got to go and take 2 micrograms of homeopathic rat turds. Completely organically grown btw.
We have been taking a lot of D3 for a couple of years now and a few mos ago added daily magnesium. I think we are going to add daily potassium also.
In order by price, roughly:
I guess my main question is if one’s blood levels meet the standards, is this enough? My diet is bad due to the traveling requirements of my job, so I take a standard dosed supplement. Not sure if that is sufficient.
While I do try to get it from foods, that doesn’t always happen.
So what food are rich in magnesium? Nuts? Are all nuts equally rich in magnesium?
Ping.
Importantly, not too long ago a young man managed to kill himself with a magnesium overdose. It wasn’t easy.
Typically, Epsom salts, citrate of magnesia, and milk of magnesia are used as laxatives, because the magnesium is poorly absorbed, and actually draws water into the intestines before elimination.
However, this young man did not swallow Epsom salt water, he gargled with it. He suffered from halitosis, bad breath, and thought that by regularly gargling with Epsom salts, it would keep his breath fresh.
So he did so for over a month. But this was the one way he could consistently absorb a maximum dose of magnesium while minimizing elimination.
One day he developed painful, severe all-over body muscle cramps, and he was dead within 48 hours.
The bottom line is that the body’s minerals: calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, zinc, iron, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum and selenium; are all important to health, but exist in a delicate balance.
Fortunately, the body is pretty good about maintaining that balance over time, but some diseases, poisons, and imbalances can be so great that it overwhelms us.
I can’t tolerate the traditional magnesium oxide supplement; have much better luck with the newer citrate formulations and also magnesium chloride (as in Slo-Mag®).
I’ve had this bookmarked for a few years:
Great if you live near progressive/communist scum.
