Need we bring up the whole causation vs. correlation thing?

IOW, the subset of black people more likely to get married tend to also belong to the subset less likely to remain in poverty, for a host of reasons, most unrelated to the fact of marriage.

Obviously they are, by and large, more self-disciplined. But there is also clearly a civilizing effect on men who get married. It expands their time horizon and increases the tendency to defer gratification.
