A federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, has ordered the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make the morning-after birth control pill available to people of any age without a prescription.
The order overturned a 2011 decision by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to require a prescription for girls under 17.
The FDA said it couldn't comment because it is an ongoing legal mater.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommended last year that oral contraceptives be sold over the counter in an effort to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies in the United States. Opponents of prescription requirements say prescriptions can delay access to the drug.
In 2011, Teva Woman's Health Inc, maker of Plan B One-Step, had asked the FDA to make the drug available without prescription to all sexually active girls and women. Sebelius overruled that recommendation, saying "I do not believe enough data were presented to support the application."

Just wait. This will be one of those “tweaks” they’re always talking about. But, at least the judge didn’t order every sexually active girl to check in every morning and take a pill. Yet.
If the so-called “morning after pill” can be mandated to be available without a prescription or age of majority status or parental approval, then why the hell isn’t birth control also afforded this same availability?
Abortion as “birth control” is bad policy. But the Sanda Sluts of the world want somebody ELSE to pay for their birth control. When it’s available over the counter, you have to reach in your own pocket and pay 100% of the cost.
Dead Red Ted Kennedy opposed medical savings accounts that could be used to personally bank pre-tax dollars into a savings plan for use and rolling over the unused dollars into the subsequent years. He fought that tooth and nail until he died.
It's the "After date rape" drug.
Excuse my ignorance, but how would taking a morning after pill erase all evidence of rape or pedophilia having occurred?
I just think if “ANY” woman can get it, why not EVERYONE.
It’s clearly harmless. FDA says so. Judge says so. Planned Parenthood says so. Public schools say so. All of our liberal experts say so.
