As tensions mount on the Korean Peninsula, Wolf Blitzer explains what's behind the threats and what's at stake in a special edition of "The Situation Room," Thursday at 6 p.m. ET on CNN.
Are you from South or North Korea? Concerned about the latest crisis? Send us your thoughts.
(CNN) -- Missile and launch components have been moved to the east coast of North Korea in the "last few days," a U.S. official with direct knowledge of the information told CNN on Thursday.
This comes as indications emerged that North Korea, which unleashed another round of scathing rhetoric accusing the United States of pushing the region to the "brink of war," could be planning a missile launch soon.
The components, the official said, are consistent with those of a Musudan missile, which has a 2,500-mile range, meaning it could threaten South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia.
The United States has been looking for a hidden North Korean east coast launch site or mobile launchers, a concern because a launch from the east coast would go over Japan, the official said.
It is believed a missile launch would be a "test" launch rather than a targeted strike. That is because it appears the North Koreans have only moved the components so far. The United States is waiting to see whether North Korea issues a notice to its airmen and mariners to stay out of the region.
Communication intercepts in recent days also seem to show that Pyongyang could be planning to launch a mobile ballistic missile in the coming days or weeks, another U.S. official said.

Unproven missile defense systems? From a pampered islamocommie crack-smoking closet queen? As the Castrati Cabinet, Mssrs Kerry, Hagel, Brennan have it all under control.
Who just dropped the southern radar belt faster than his Sinclair limo act.
Truman booted MacArthur so we could have this fifty-year hemorrhoid go nuclear on a willing dupe POTUS jonesing for a vacation.
If McCloy and Dulles could bring Gehlen & Co. over, why not drone out Lil' Kim, carpet bomb the artillery belt with B-2-borne tacnukes, and put the DPRK brass on an Italian cruise ship with endless buffet and Wives of Pyongyang.
Let the replacement of China with other third-world suppliers continue and get back to the important work of StuxNet II: all screens go to Bravo reruns of Ahmadinejad lookalikes ringside at Chippendales concerts.

Good movie about the Korean War.
“71: Into The Fire”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/71:_Into_the_Fire
The film is based on a true story of a group of 71 undertrained and undergunned student-soldiers of South Korea during the Korean War, who were mostly killed on August 11, 1950, during the Battle of P’ohang-dong. For 11 hours, they defended P’ohang-dong girls’ middle school, a strategic point for safeguarding the Nakdong River, from an attack by overwhelming North Korean forces.
These 71 teenagers, most of whom had never shot a gun before, managed to hold out against the advancing North Korean army for 11 hours. Their heroic defense of the area was actually a turning point in the Korean War. 71: Into the Fire tells the story of these student-soldiers over the course of that fateful day.
Oh Jang-beom is forced into becoming the leader of the student-soldier unit, simply because he is one of only three of the students who has combat experience (his combat experience was ammunition running between stations - not actual fighting). The rest of the student-soldiers have not even fired a weapon - that’s how little training these young men had. This lack of experience and training makes the story even more amazing and inspiring.
100,000 South Korean students volunteered to fight in the war. This film was made as a commemoration of their sacrifices and was released during the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.

There is a limited time the bird can sit fueled before the tanks start to corrode. De-fueling might be more hazardous.
Chances are, if they are fueled, they will be fired.
Has that been posted as a separate FR thread? It’s rather disconcerting and I’m interested in reading others’ thoughts on it.

It’s important enough it would probably be good to have it posted again. But you can see the comments there at least.
Far from certain. He is a proud owner of 24 million slaves that his family exploited for half a century. The country is poor, but you can be sure that Junior has a few gold bars squirreled away in various foreign banks - and there is no way to connect them to NK. He could be very rich. All he needs to do is to change his face and to get a few fake identities. He is one of those people who only need a treadmill and a diet to become completely unrecognizable in a few months, even without help of a surgeon. His father could afford to even have a few children legitimately raised abroad as holders of Junior's future identity if need be.
If we imagine that NK is at some point vaporized and nothing is left, the Junior and a few of his top men will be alive and well, on his way to China or Indonesia - perhaps in one of those mini-subs that were discussed in another thread (those that suddenly disappeared from satellite photos, being sent on a mission.) Will it be possible to identify Kim Jong-un at some point? Maybe not, lacking his original DNA records. He may even surface as President of the USA one day.
He may even surface as President of the USA one day.
LOL
Thank you!
