I remember the 12+ hour overnight bus ride from Knox to Polk. That was fun. (not! lol) Yeah, those barracks were something else. And I remember the “sneeze sheets” when the cold/flu season arrived. Never had to go overseas. The DI’s warned us to stay out of Leesville, so I stayed out. Some went into town and either had their money stolen or had the crap beaten out of them. Don’t know if relations between the town and the base are better now than they were back then. The little pizza shop on the “main drag” of North Fort was a favorite of AIT trainees. And the little movie house. First saw “Play Misty For Me” there.

I was there in the summer so we didn’t have sneeze sheets. I bet those barracks were cold.

I can’t even remember how we got into Leesville. We got some whiskey and snuck it into the movie and bought cokes.

I do remember the old lady in the concession stand was not very friendly. When we went back for re-fills she suspected we had whiskey but couldn’t prove it. She probably smelled it. LOL
