If he wins, he’ll be talked into supporting liberal legislation, like John Ensign was. Democrats and moderate republicans will praise and cajole him...until a democrat defeats him because he is a weak link, or the republicans in the district wise up and primary him out of office.

I highly doubt that. Sanford was consistently a fiscal conservative during his 3 terms in congress and the governorship and held a 92% ACU rating. Any mistrust of him is with his personal not his professional conduct. And if he really wants to salvage his reputation he’s going to have to be on especially good behavior.
I just don’t see reason for histrionics over his nomination.
Sanford will win easy. SC does not like democrats. He was also a good, conservative governor that people liked. The woman issue will not bother him at all. And it shouldn’t. If he were a democrat he would already be president.
