This brings up one of the creepyest aspects of this thing, for me: They are not just saying you have insurance. They are micromanaging the quality of said insurance you have to have.

I heard, years ago, that depending on your income level, the best insurance was between $5,000 and $10,000 deductible. Insurance is supposed to protect you from CATASTROPHIC hits to your finances. It is why LLoyd’s of London came into existence, for crying out loud.

Obamacare is forcing something on us that, in a very real way, has always been a rather irresponsible expenditure of your funds. It went south when companies stared offering it as an employment benefit. And they did that because the government enacted a wage freeze and this was the way companies got around that to entice good employees.

i.e. this whole mess was caused by the government and now they are using it to micromanage our lives. It is pathetic and insulting.

Insurance is protection against uncertain future events. When you take uncertain out of the equation it simply becomes redistribution.

Obamacare is not health care, it is not free, it is slavery.

Preaching to the choir here...I know.

Now we are getting to the meat and potatoes, so to speak.

The argument for universal insurance is backed by irresponsibility, at its core. Afterall, how can you be expected to save some money and maintain a bank account to meet your personal needs when you have rims to buy, a need for a big screen LCD in every room of your house, and iphones to buy?!?!? When you have needs, you should have planned well enough to meet those needs. If you want to have a baby, you should have planned well enough to have the money set aside to not only pay for the birth, but also the support of the child - it's that simple.

Confusing "rights" with excuse after excuse that tries to brush aside personal responsibility and accountability is absurd.

We have always had catstrophic coverage with the highest decdctible possible for just that reason. But Ocare forces you to purchase a policy covering all sorts of things you don't need, and that are very expensive. For example, we now have to carry "early preventative in-patient care for drug and alcohol abuse", though we neither drink, nor smoke (one of the most expensive coverages around); full pregnancy coverage, though the Mr. has had a vasectomy years ago, and I am past the age; a 3 million lifetime coverage limit, where we had $1 mill.

These are very expensive, and have pushed our cost from a reasonable $600/month to $1500/mon, which is ridiculous.

Plus, I have read that your coverage will be fully taxable, and any benefits you do receive will be counted as income.

It's almost like it was planned to force everyone into single payer.../sarc

You summed up this 50-year-long slow train wreck in one post.

Yet how many American's know this? None, because all the media reports are anecdotes and horse races.

Politicians have been micromanaging health insurance for years. Some group lobbies state legislators for their pet treatment or disease, and *presto* all insurance companies must cover them.

So, you pay for everyone else’s chiropractic, mental health, maternity, mammograms, autism treatments (many of which are quack therapies targeted at the desperate), and a whole host of other treatments and tests that you may not want or need. Nobody is allowed to just buy basic health coverage for themselves and their families.
