As a child, I never imagined that I could end up as a political prisoner, Gulag-style, right here at home.

Now I can see it happening to me. But not without a fight.

History has an important lesson to teach in that regard: better to die like a free man with a pile a spent cartridge cases at your feet than like an animal in one of those slaughterhouses.

Similarly, I never imagined that Orwell’s 1984 was a warning about what the US could become.

I thought it was about the USSR, and what would happen if the USSR ultimately prevailed.

As a child I didn’t know what that meant but as a teenaged sailor in Keflavik, Iceland I had already read Atlas Shrugged and understood exactly what it was about. I have known for fifty years that America would likely become a giant prison camp one day and we are nearly there. I have alienated many people over the years by trying to warn them about what lay ahead if we did not change course. They thought I was nuts. Is there any greater heartbreak than being right when you want to be wrong?
