Far to long to post this is a very good extended treatment of one of the two or three most famous 'escape tales' from World War 2. I post it both as a mark of respect for those who struggled so bravely to win us the world we seem determined to ruin or lose and to remind all of how big and bad things can get. In passing this article deals with the activities of Maj (later Colonel USA) Jerry Sage. Col Sage is himself worthy of an extended treatment and his book 'Sage' is well worth finding on the net and purchasing. After the World War Jerry Sage distinguished himself in the 'War for the World' against the Soviet Union and its minions. Unfortunately he never wrote about that part of his long and remarkable career. Col Sage died in 1993 in Enterprise, Alabama at age 75.

Thanks for this posting. My cousin Bill Degnan Jr was a crewmember not sure what his duties were but I think a navigator on a B-25 which was shot down over Germany near the Alsatian area. He made it back to England via the French underground. Oh yea, was awarded the Flying Cross.
