Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Doesn't Jesus say "if you do not own a sword, sell your tunic and buy one"?
Jesus himself wants us to be armed, and to defend ourselves when needed.

(I have not heard any politcians say how to take away guns from criminals, just law abiding citizens)

Even when Peter drew his sword & cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant, Jesus only told him, “Put your sword back in its place”.
Jesus didn’t tell Peter to throw down his sword & renounce violence, He simply told Peter that the use of force has consequences.
He then healed the ear of Malchus.
