And people panic buying AR-15s and stocking up on ammo are being called irrational.

Given the circumstances above, my take is that the current panic is perfectly rational, but a bit misguided because AR-15s are a bit too underpowered for the potential task at hand.

A truly rational, well guided individual would be buying much higher powered and larger caliber self defense weapons
