The goal is to reduce the private companies down to small enough number that the feds can easily take over, for the common good of course. Mergers and aquisitions help condense entire industries down to a few owners, which make them big fat targets for government takeover.
The more the government legislates against a paticular industry, means that they want that industry under their complete control, for the common good of course. In other words, fascism.
Talk to your favorite CPA's etc off the record and find out how many small businesses have given up the ghost since 08' and how many vacant store fronts you have in your town post 08' because they can't make it in the regulatory, Obamacare, and lack of commerical paper environment post Dodd Frank...
