A Dutch web-hosting company caused disruption and the global slowdown of the internet, according to a not-for-profit anti-spam organization.
The interruptions came after Spamhaus, a spam-fighting group based in Geneva, temporarily added the Dutch firm, CyberBunker, to a blacklist that is used by e-mail providers to weed out spam.
Cyberbunker is housed in a five-story former NATO bunker and famously offers its services to any website except child porn and anything related to terrorism". As such it has often been linked to behaviour that anti-spam blacklist compilers have condemend.
It retaliated with a huge 'denial of service attack'. These work by trying to make a network unavailable to its intended users, overloading a server with coordinated requests to access it. At one point, 300 billion bits per second were being sent by a network of computers, making this the biggest attack ever

My calculator just melted.

Sort of like our national debt increase.
Hasn’t been slow for me.

Spamhaus.
Love the name, LOL
I can’t even begin to get my mind around ***trillions***, when I see those comparison graphics. Millions and billions were incremental over my 63yrs, but TRILLIONS? Nah.
Yowzer, that’s some flowing data.
So, what I’m reading is....Cyberbunker threw a hissy-fit after Spamhaus added them to a blacklist of spam-providers, with said hissy-fit (in the form of a DDoS attack) causing shutdown of servers around the world.
Methinks Cyberbunker needs to be the target of a MOAB.
sounds like a real Cyberbummer.
Wars will be fought electronically. The casualties may be bank accounts, commerce.
How does one prove that you did indeed have $125,000 on deposit at a bank? We think our systems with back ups and redundancy are pretty secure, until it is not.
I can hold out until Katrillians!
But I have had enough of a slowdown lately that I wondered if my provider was having a problem or if I had hit enough User Error to make a difference.
Went through Geek Squad and cleaned up somewhat..going to check with provider today - Suddenlink - then on to User Error which is the likely problem I'm having!
Hang tough until Katrillan hits!

This is ridiculous.
They admit they are doing it.
We know where they are located.
Just put a few JDAMs on the offending location and the problem is solved.
Cyber Bunker? Sounds like trouble.
