With Congress once again slouching toward immigration reform, it makes sense to look for who is lobbying lawmakers to shape the coming legislation.

As it turns out, while Americans remain divided on immigration, the lobbyists are not.

The Sunlight Foundation, a do-gooder government transparency and accountability outfit formed in 2006, on Monday released "Untangling the Webs of immigration Lobbying," a report examining the organizations that have led the charge for changing the rules on immigration to the United States.

Sunlight dug through 8,000 lobbying reports filed since the last big push for immigration reform in 2007. Six-thousand seven-hundred and twelve of those involved immigration lobbying. More than $1.5 billion was spent on this immense lobbying push.

A quick scan of the article seems to make no distinction between illegal immigration and legal immigration.

Americans are divided over illegal immigration.

Lumping illegal and legal immigration into one big 'Immigration' debate is done for one purpose: to muddle the issue. The two should always be considered separate issues.

It’s unfortunate for the future of the country, but most of the groups really pushing money into Amnesty are big-business and small-business related. And they do it because the alternative to Illegal workers is simply DREADFUL, and that is having to hire today’s high school ‘graduates’ and welfare queens, who are lucky show up to work by lunch time, if at all. It sure would be nice if we could figure out a way to encourage these brats to actually respect doing work.

However, its amazing that a liberal rag would point out how one sided the debate is.
