Just in Time for Passover: Kosher Cigarettes

It's Passover and for the first time, Israeli smokers can puff away on rabbi-approved cigarettes, the AP reports. The group that certifies foods and other items as kosher for the week-long holiday approved three brands of cigarettes after determining that their ingredients had not come into contact with grains or other forbidden items. Israel's chief rabbinate, however, criticized the move and said rabbis should not be giving smokes the seal of approval. "Poison is not kosher. For all days of the year, not just Passover," a spokesman said.

Years ago, one of our refinery sales reps wanted to sell our CO2 to a kosher pickle cannery in the Twin Cities. A stipulation for the company was that all products, including the glass jars, had to be kosher so even though our CO2 was close by, it couldn't be used without an inspection.
Phone calls to area synagogues resulted in a young rabbi arriving for a refinery tour. He examined the CO2 system and truck load-out and pronounced them approved and the sale was finally made.
