That was the whole purpose of the European Union in the first place.

What makes it worse is that countries with a slight advantage are about to be hobbled:

Ireland and Cyprus are frequently criticized for their low corporate taxes, while the Belgian government recently indicated it would complain to the European Commission about Germany's low wages. …

The advantage of low corporate taxation disappeared when both Ireland and Cyprus gave up their own currencies and joined the euro—which is an imperial currency.
