Nobody fired up the masses like the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkhov.

Yeah ... this crap has been going on since I was a boy, although the villians of my time were actually heroes (of a sort ... Killer Kowalski, e.g)

We all know which side the New York Times is on- and it sure as hell ain't ours... Or maybe it's just a coincidence the New York Times chose the sport Iran's best at...

I love how he had to spell the word “IRAN” on the flag so people would know what flag it was.

Yep, greatest heels in the history of wrestling, especially the Iron Sheik. Of course, today, most Democrats would probably view them as “faces”.

It looks to be a job with a high rate of early death. I found it sobering that most of those guys were born after me.

Iran's national freestyle wrestling team, which includes 18 members (5 coaches plus athletes) will make a visit to the hosting country in the near future.
headline the next day: "Iranian Wrestling Team Missing"

I noted that also.
I'm not necesarilly a wrestling fan, but I remember about 2/3 of the names and have seen about the same number on insomnia TV and trying to sober up Saturday mornings.
I'm gonn'a guess, barring the tragedy of airplane or automobile accidents ... juicing.

My heroes were Tony Martinelli, Antonino Rocco and of course Bruno Sammartino. Showing my age huh?
