Joshua Green shares an amazing story about the secret negotiations between Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich for a unity ticket during the Republican Presidential primary. In the end, Green reports, neither of the two Republican leaders could agree which of the two would be president.
(T)he two candidates spoke face-to-face at an energy forum just before the primary. Gingrich made an elaborate historical argument that when the party hasnt been able to agree on a nominee, it always settles on the senior figure. Santorum wasnt persuaded, and urged Gingrich to do what was best for the conservative movement.

Yep NO doubt about we had a "Real" "Good" "Slate" of "candidates" last year. A$$HOLES ALL!

I don’t like Gingrich but the things I don’t like about him are exactly why I thought he would be an ideal VP choice for Santorum.
They certainly would have rolled over Romney like he wasn’t even there.

I like 2 .38s with one round each, lock ‘em BOTH in a room and whichever one of them comes out is the winner.

That is because neither ever will be.

The last thing/people we need in 2016 is a bunch of retreads from the 2012 primaries.
So far, now we have Perry, Santorum and Gingrich hinting. Those along with Christie, JBush, Rubio, Paul, Ryan, Huckabee and Carson already make for a crowded stage. And not a one of them is such a stellar candidate who could win against a strong Democrat.

Looked up hubris online and saw Santorum's picture... They're already starting to push the next hand picked loser republican for the 2016 race.

Newt knew that essentially this was his last chance for Number One and taking the 2nd spot would have ended that chance. Rick on the other hand could have taken the 2nd spot and still have had a chance for the top spot later.

Just like Soros, et al, decided to buy up BOTH parties instead of gambling on one, the aspirants themselves are being bought and groomed
That’s the reason for the maniacal demand for widespread same-day primaries; to eliminate candidates who aren’t already approved by big-money guys.

Go back and compare who was actually winning GOP primaries (or losing to Romney’s money by just a few points) when Gingrich refused to deal
I think that was Newts pho-to you saw

I’d suggest a cage match. But we all know who would win there.
(Although Newt must be in his 60’s now. And is getting pudgy and soft.)

Read the article. This conversation took place before the primary. Ricky Sanctimonious is a big government socon in addition to a backstabbing weasel. I wish he would slither back to Pa or wherever he calls home and be a family man.

The last thing/people we need in 2016 is a bunch of retreads from the 2012 primaries.I agree. I said the same after 2008 and look what we got. Romney and another loss.
We need someone new and fresh. Also, too many throw their hats in the ring and split the conservative vote. Limit the number and/or hold a "conservative", invite only run-off before the GOPe run primary. All conservatives who 'apply' would be required to drop out in favor of the winner.
Jim DeMint at the Heritage Foundation could be the organizer. Come to think of it, Heritage should set up an annual conference right now to supplant CPAC next year.
