By all accounts, the Japanese Kamikaze pilots in WWII were earnest, dedicated young men. House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan is an earnest, dedicated young man. The principal difference between Chairman Ryan and a Kamikaze pilot is that the Japanese aviators got only one shot, while Ryan has managed to fly three suicide missions in three years.
Ryans first Kamikaze flight, his Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Resolution, had zero impact on Federal spending, but managed to sink Republican hopes of retaining NY-26, a congressional district that had been held by Republicans since Jack Kemp won it in 1970.
Ryans second suicidal attack on federal spending, his Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Resolution, helped send the Republicans 2012 national election flotilla to the bottom, including his own candidacy for Vice President.
Now Chairman Ryan is revving his fiscal engines and readying his Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Resolution for takeoff. This one comes too early to sink the Republicans chances for holding onto the House of Representatives in 2014, but it will certainly hand the Democrats a lot of ammunition to fire at the Republican fleet next year.
The missions that the Kamikazes flew in 1944 1945 made no difference in the outcome of the war in the Pacific. However, the Japanese suicide pilots at least had the right objectiveto destroy the U.S. 7th Fleet. Chairman Ryans latest budget plan doesnt even have that much going for it.
Ryans budget starts with the assumption that the overriding issues are federal spending, deficits, and debt. This is not correct. Americas most important problem is subpar economic growth. Indeed, the rate of economic growth is the only first order issue. Everything else is at least an order of magnitude (i.e., a factor of 10) less important.

Why does Forbes give space to these nuts? I am fine with a thoughtful argument for other economic policies, but not this spewing.
Until we get back to 18% of GDP, we are just trimming fat.
The author disagrees with Paul Ryan on one issue — BALANCED BUDGET.
He argues that Ryans budget plan then assumes that it is important to balance the federal budget.
He disagrees and says that it is not. In fact, at least in terms of economics and federal finances, a balanced federal budget is not even desirable.
If we had a balanced budget today, the right thing to do would be to implement supply-side tax cuts to increase our RGDP growth rate. There is no problem running a deficit so long as it is lower (as a percent of GDP) than our rate of nominal GDP growth. As long as this is the case, our debt as a percent of GDP will decline steadily.
DISAGREE WITH HIM? I’d like to understand why.
All it takes is one columnist to support Ryan’s budget. Reason it gets no traction is because of nuts like the author of this article.
When the patient is in a coma no anesthesia is necessary.
I’d rather have a hemorhoid(sp) removed without anesthesia than listen to king hussein yap on and on.
I used to like Nixon's speeches. There was nothing on earth that would put me to sleep faster.
That was quite a sedative as I recall. King hussein on the other hand simply makes me want to hurl!
I’d say do what the dems would do and start calling the democrats racists for using the term “kamikaze”. And racist un-Americans for trying to equate another party as suicidal pilots from a foreign country...who by the way, the democrats under Big Sis are now giving trusted traveler status to....
The choice is between doing surgery without anesthesia or letting the patient bleed to death while waiting for the anesthesiologist. Unfortunately the rest of the surgical team has drained the nitrous tank for their own use.
Time to cancel my subscription to Forbes...
I remember when Forbes was conservative.
There are more than just a few lawmakers on Capitol Hill who are in need of some surgery without anesthesia....
What's new?
Liberals are morons when it comes to the budget. They have no real clue what a budget truly is. They also ignore the line items and just focus on goals...that isn’t budgeting, it’s wishful thinking.
No one, including the GOP, ever gets into the weeds. Zero based budgeting works folks, we should try it in government instead of the “formula” of spend this and next year spend this plus 4%. That’s not budgeting either.
There are billions and billions of BS in local, state and federal budgets. And the money going to overhead is ungodly...a real conservative GOP Congress would highlight this fact. Publish the percentage of the budgets that is payroll, etc. I bet some of the departments run close, or over, 50% in overhead.
