You are thinking of the Nixon recession of 1973 to 1975, that is when I left the Army.

That was at the end of the Vietnam war and a time of fuel shortages and meat shortages, and a bad recession.

Carter beat nixon to a recession. Carter really messed things up. I got out in 69. Carter shut down steel mills and constriction industry. I remember the Carter malaise. My degree was in Construction Management but there was no Construction industry.
