Political party planner Melissa Dawdy wants to throw frustrated conservatives a lifeline this fall. And shes landed tea party darling Herman Cain as her first mate.
Dawdy, who said shes participated in several National Review sponsored-cruises and enjoyed those trips, sees an opening for a new wave of conservative coalition building. And shes hoping to reel in folks who are desperately seeking their political bearings after a devastating fall, such as those at the just-concluded Conservative Political Action Conference.
The average tea party person quit the tea party after 2012. They took a face-plant, she said of the ripple effect of President Barack Obamas re-election. Karl Rove is trying it. But I dont think its going to work from the top down.
Dawdys inaugural Freedom on the Sea cruise promises a seven-day (Nov. 17-24) retreat featuring multiple panels and speaking events interspersed with day trips to Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman Island and other sun-splashed Caribbean ports. And dont worry, she did her homework: This far-right love-fest will sail into the future aboard a new(ish) Holland America boat, rather than disaster-prone Carnival.
Its hard for grass-roots activists to find something new, she suggested of the limited networking options. This is like a Breitbart cruise with advanced activist training.
No mere booze cruise, Dawdy plans to enable fellow firebrands by honing:
TV presence: Conservatives have made some big mistakes on camera, she asserted.
Rhetorical skills: They dont know how to use the lefts language against them, she said of rank amateurs.
The crown jewel of the program is a day at sea with 2012 GOP presidential hopeful Cain, who has committed to joining up with the group Nov. 23 for a meet-and-greet, luncheon and 3-hour Q-and-A session.
Packages start at $1,440 per person, although Dawdy assured HOH that fee is all-inclusive (taxes, fees, tips and on-board cocktail hours are covered).
Absolutely true. Every candidate who takes out a Republican incumbent in a primary absolutely needs to go to a Rush Limbaugh boot camp.
Oh so YOU believe in the Death Penalty for the innocent pre-born?

Personally, Liked Cain's "9-9-9", but any sensible economic plan will do. And the party should pull together and all speak with one voice. Imagine if Romney, Perry, Santorum, Cain, Gingrich and the others had all had one economic plan -- "This is it. It works. Saaaaay, does Obama have a plan?? No?"
We eat our own too much. The thinkers need to formulate a strategy and sell it to each other first. THEN try to close the deal with the voters.
And I’ll just add: the really divisive stuff is always the social points. Personally, I am very socially conservative. But if the conservative candidates had one voice on economic issues, and then offered a range of viewpoints on social issues it would be interesting. Make it start: you like abortion, or you don’t. You like sodomy, or you don’t. Let the media make it’s blatantly biased case. Let the American public state their view. My guess is that the media would find many millions of people standing tall in favor of social conservatism.
I’m sorry, but I can’t figure out what you’re trying to say here. Using the left’s language against them means that we learn to say things like, “I believe in a woman’s right to choose where her child should go to school.”
Regarding the unborn, we should be more assertive in explaining that Conservatives offer MORE choices for a woman who does’t want to be pushed into the abortion mill by liberals. The left really only gives vulnerable young women two choices: her baby’s death or a life in poverty.
“That statement right there tells you everything you need to know about this woman.”
Perhaps you misunderstood, or misread the article. I believe in the power of grassroots groups and individuals.
Excellent post, ClearCase_guy! I do think we need to talk more about the issue of loyalty, and avoiding wars that divide our ranks. At CPAC, much of the discussion revolved around uniting under the banner of constitutional liberty and fiscal sanity. We can argue about everything else after we win more elections. The left media wants to drag all our social issues into the arena and use them as tripwires. We should not let them.
Love the picture!
