All very, very predictable.
You are correct in your analysis. This is no victory for conservatives—only a successful defense on one piece of posturing legislation. The leftists lost nothing and Feinstein represented her voters with passion; something that will ensure she has an unassailable position in her next election and in her leadership role in the House. We conservatives gained nothing. Over the decades since 1936, gun owners have been subjected to increasing infringements and insults. We are even charged fees for our rights, in the form of permit and compliance fees.
The Heller decision, a milestone in restoration of human rights, is ignored by the left. Nothing improved for gun owners and the lack of consequences for the left emboldens them.
Pity our side rushes to throw our "extremists" under the bus instead of using those positions as a starting place for negotiations.
While the Left understands the tactic pretty well, and any horse trader knows you can get more if you start high and dicker down, the GOP tends to start asking for what it wants out of the deal and always seems to come up short.
You are right, of course Joe, and we all should note that her bill, which we will see time and time again, is the agenda of ALL those that want ANY inroads against the 2A, exposed and out in the open.
