After a meeting yesterday with Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Dianne Feinstein learned that her controversial assault weapons ban mess will not be part of the gun control bill package heading to the senate floor next month.
The AWB could be offered up as an amendment, but the bill was already considered a long shot, as senate democrats will be facing a competitive election cycle for 2014. Many face constituents back home who do not support such legislation.

The AWB was a ruse to get what they really want, registration. I don't take this as good news as much as a predictable step in the process.
The real battle is their expanded "background checks."

Don't celebrate yet. This is the old “bait and switch” because they liberal socialist really knew all along they could never get the assault weapons ban. What they really want, and will fight hard for, while looking like they have compromised and are being [reasonable] if a National Firearm Registry Data Base, this will then place the power in the hands of LE who will then use it to confiscate weapons from Americans through attrition.
Wait for it . . .

Note that the rationale for killing it is that it’ll be tough on Red State Dems this year.
NOT that it is permanently off the table.
Should the Schumer bill pass, and the Red State Dems keep their seats and preserve the Dem majority, her restrictions will be back on the agenda in early 2015.

Exactly! The liberal socialist are simply moving the “confiscation” of all firearms [ball] another inch, and then another inch until they reach their goal!
They never stop, they never tire, this is why when I see these RINO’s “compromising” because elections have consequences crap allows these socialist to win every time!

This isn’t good news. You add this bill to comprehensive gun reform, or whatever they are calling it, and it dies - all of it.
Now, Feinstein’s bill is an amendment, which will be looked at as ‘meeting the right half way’ when it is voted down.
The reform bill, all of it, including the mental health check crap is bad and unconstitutional.
In the GOP’s own limp-wristed traditions, we always seem to be compromising our position, and not the left’s.
To: PJ-Comix
Heard this on the news earlier today and first thing I thought was “Great that means the GOP caved on something so whatever the compromise is will pass.”

Agreed! And never ever underestimate the party of stupid the GOP. They can’t have a victory and let it alone. They will in the end surrender on some form of gun control. They can’t help themselves they are just that damn gutless and stupid.

Yeah. Like we should trust
any of these sneaky Washington bastards? We're being set up for something bad disguised as something benign to be slipped through as a "compromise".
Of course, the stupid Senate Pubbies will flock to it and agree in the spirit of being Good Friends Across The Aisle. Then Boehner will cave along with 30 or so "Republicans" and ram this "common sense compromise" through the House. Then, 0dorko will happily sign it. As usual, Americans and our Constitution will be screwed once again.
Some things never change...

"One has to wonder why they are doing it. For some reason, they seem to think it will help them in the 2014 mid-terms, and think the outcome will be different than 1994..." My worst fear is that there will be a false flag during the lead up to the election, giving the dems a huge, "we told you so," moment followed by, "this election is your chance to do something about it."

Harry Reid was told to pull it since they do not want to have 50+ Senators on record voting for or against such a monstrosity. The RATS KNOW this cannot pass the GOP led House, so they dare not record vote this close to 2014.

Perhaps some of you missed this little nugget at the end...
Democrat insiders say the universal background check, supported only by Democrats, will not head to the floor either.

Good riddance.
The real danger though is “universal background checks.”
