Minnesota Senate panel OKs bill granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants

Senate panel passed a bill on Monday that would let illegal immigrants get a Minnesota driver's license, the most recent development in a push at the Capitol to train and insure more drivers who aren't U.S. citizens.

The Senate Transportation and Public Safety Committee endorsed the bill on a 10-7 vote -- with all Democrats in favor and all Republicans opposing the bill -- to ease the state's restrictions on driver's licenses. A House committee endorsed a similar bill last week. The Democrats pushing the measure say the change would make Minnesota roads safer: If the state starts to regulate illegal immigrants behind the wheel, they'll have to pass a test and could more easily buy automobile insurance.

But Republicans expressed concern that the change could lead to unintended consequences, such as illegal immigrants using their new state IDs to register to fraudulently vote on Election Day.

Unintended? Oh, hardly... that is quite clearly the intent.

And, on election day, the same folks will register and vote, probably without getting out of the car...

Why not? They will drive anyway this way you can get data on them and get them to buy insurance. We need these people because Americans are not having children to replace the population. When the war starts we will need these folks to fill in the ranks and work in the factories building weapons.

That means a Minnesota drivers license is worthless as a valid ID since the illegals frequently enter the US under aliases. US citizens have to produce a slew of identification to get a license including a birth certificate, social security card, marriage license and even a passport. Will illegals in Minnesota just be handed a license? Will the illegals also be exempted from having insurance on their vehicles now that they can have a license to drive? Watch car insurance rates soar in Minnesota.

does my having a license guarantee me having insurance?
NO. This is the gateway paperwork to getting free stuff.

If the first thing you do on arrival in our country is violate our laws getting in, I doubt being law-abiding is high on the priority list.

When this ‘war’ comes, they ain’t going to be on the side of freedom. They’ll be on the ‘keep my free stuff coming’ side.

"That change eventually cost Wendy Hickey's husband -- who crossed into the U.S. from Mexico illegally in 1996 -- his job, she said."

No, the change did not cost him his job- being here Illegally in the first place did. This is all about voting and nothing to do with safety or insuring drivers. They're already covered, I pay the "Under-insured/Non-insured driver" tax every month.
