Affordable Care Act extended free preventive care to 71 million Americans with private health insurance

Health Care Law’s third anniversary sees health costs slowing down, more value for consumers

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today that about 71 million Americans in private health insurance plans received coverage for at least one free preventive health care service, such as a mammogram or flu shot, in 2011 and 2012 because of the Affordable Care Act. The new data was released in a report from HHS today.

Additionally, an estimated 34 million Americans in traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans have received at least one preventive service, such as an annual wellness visit at no out of pocket cost because of the health care law.

Taken together, this means about 105 million Americans with private health plans and Medicare beneficiaries have been helped by the Affordable Care Act’s prevention coverage improvements.

Preventive services, consumer protections, and other reforms under the Affordable Care Act are giving millions of Americans of all ages more value for their health care dollars and contributing to the slowest growth in health care costs in 50 years.

“Preventing illnesses before they become serious and more costly to treat helps Americans of all ages stay healthier,” Secretary Sebelius said.  “No longer do Americans have to choose between paying for preventive care and groceries.”

Secretary Sebelius released the preventive services report as HHS celebrates the Affordable Care Act’s third anniversary this week.  The law is keeping down costs and providing more value for consumers and taxpayers through new consumer protections, holding insurance companies accountable, building a smarter health care system, and providing seniors with vital savings on their prescription drugs.

The Affordable Care Act is giving Americans better value for their health insurance plans by:

Yep, a Flu shot at CVS costs ten bucks. A 90 Day Supply Generic Prescription at Walmart costs ten bucks.

If Doctors were “allowed” to charge Cash for an office visit instead of dealing with Obamacare, it would probably cost $50 to $100, with additional fees for specific services rendered.

That is competition, not a Government Mandate followed by a Government Tax Bill.

Get the Government out of our lives and costs are reduced.

The notion of “free” anything just makes people want to take advantage of the gift, whether they really need it or not. A prime example is Food Stamps, with the Government advertising for participants and making it “easy” to get them. That's the only way you get nearly 50 Million Participants. I've heard that just the administrative costs eat up (pardon the pun) over a third of the Program's Budget.. That's nuts by the barrel full.

On another topic, I just saw my first Obamaphone commercial last week. It was a rah rah come and get it Taxpayer funded joke, or should I say I hoped it was a joke.

I fear there will be no road back to Sanity, a least as long as I am alive.

Yes, totally free medical care!!!

Yipee! Yay!

And your FREE medical care paid for by Obama personally!

Out of his OWN pocket! Not out of higher taxes.

Because he LOVES you SO much!

Right? Right?

I knew a doctor who when just starting her practice, accepted Medical patients.

She dumped her Medical patients when her practice got enough “paying customers”.

Why?

She told me that Medical paid so little and the paperwork was so onerous and that Medical would reject claims so often and for so little reason, that it was not worth having Medical patients.

And this was BEFORE Obaba’s Cr*pCare.

Got to be worse now.

Right.
Bloomberg the Fascist NYC Mayor banning guns, hospital operations with pain killers, sugar, sodas, etc etc.

Due to health concerns.

And he banned gay guys “packing the peanut butter”?
(a VERY unhealthy behavior)

Right? Yes?

No, you say?

Sugar bad, homosexual sex healthy?

uh, right.....sure...

Yes, by design. Medicaid is a failed program and that's precisely why millions are being dumped into it. The current system has to be further strained and eventually broken before socialized medicine can become fully operational.

> Eliminating lifetime dollar caps on essential health benefits, and phasing out annual caps. About 105 million Americans no longer have to fear their benefits will disappear when they need them most because their insurer put a lifetime cap on the amount it would pay.

Cool. When will Obamacare extend to groceries? We'll be able to buy a 12 oz. can of beans, and then the Obamessiah will compel the bean seller to give me a continued supply of free beans forever and ever.

“Free care” means you will go visit an untrained Obama servant and then return home sick with a suicide pill.

Free health care at the cost of a $30 increase in my monthly health insurance payments. Way to go.

I’ve gotten free preventative visits for years. Frankly, I’d be willing to pay a co-pay if it lowered my insurance, since I don’t do preventative visits anyway.

Nothing is “free”. Everybody is paying a LOT MORE for their insurance than the cost of a preventative visit.

Hey, you know how you can get “free” admission to a theme park? You buy a season pass. Sure, it costs 3 times the price of a ticket, but if you have one, you get “free admission”.

Come again, Mayor Bloomberg? Tell me the difference between you and he?

**

I’ll tell you the difference ..Bloomberg and his friends want to disincentivize staying healthy — i.e., it’s Commiecare for all, and no matter how big of a lazy slob you are, you will be taken care of — you have ZERO motivation to take care of yourself.

Under the LibsRJerks plan, government stays the h*ll out of our lives and we take personal responsibilty for our health, availing ourselves of all the free market healthcare there is — it’s cheaper for us, in fact, if we actuallly TRY to take care of our health and don’t allow ourselves to balloon to 300 lbs before we’re 20.

As someone in healthcare, i DO see many folks who don’t give one WHIT about their health. We do pay for this as a society, because we socialize their irresponsibility. I want a systemwhere THEY are penalized for being irresponsible with their health. Smoking causes cancer ...overeating causes obesity which puts one at risk for diabetes, etc ...this is STRANGLING our healthcare system. Come with me, friend, and you would see this.

People don’t know what their care costs ...there is no incentive to do better — if they gorge themselves to death, why should I pay for that?
