Not if you sue the employer for not hiring you . . . then, with the $2,000,000 settlement, you can stay at home all day, watch Jerry Springer, then Maury, and then Dr. Phil. See . . . all is not lost.
A lot of people cannot command $22/hour in a competitive labor market, but a lot of work that pays considerably less will still be done for $22. Just less of it. Public bathrooms will be dirtier, lines will be longer at cash registers and no one will understand why. Business hours will be reduced.
Lawns will be less well maintained, amusement parks will close, second hand thrift shops will be staffed only by their owners, if they stay in business at all.
The net effect will to lower everyone’s standard of living and aggregate U.S. productivity. Unemployment will sky rocket.
When this occurs, it will be called “bad luck”.
