U.S. military bases are traditionally outfitted with some of the comforts of home including comfort food. The naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for example, has McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks, Subway, an Irish pub with notorious fried pickles, and multiple bars. Now, the food police are closing in at the Department of Defense, with similar language that preceded school menu crackdowns. The Pentagon today announced 13 pilot sites for its Healthy Base Initiative: Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Sill, Okla.; Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii;

A pen in the hand of this president is far more dangerous than a gun in the hands of 200 million law-abiding citizens."
I put that line in quotes because a friend sent it to me by email. It's not original to him, but it's certainly true, and frightening as well.
IMHO the US and we it's people are in the greatest danger since it became a nation. I really believe that Obama hates the US and most of it's people. It's becoming more evident every day that he's hell bent on destroying everything that has made the US great and the American people the freest and most prosperous people in the history of the world.
I would much rather lose my property and whatever money I may have (not much) than my freedom and my Constitutionally guaranteed rights. But I'm very much afraid that all of us may lose those things and much more within the next 4 years. The Republican majority in the House could reign him in on many, if not most, of the issues that are most important to me, and IMHO should be to all Americans. But given the GOP's long record of go-along-to-get-along cowardice I'm not counting on that happening.
So much for an army marches on its stomach. Just another way to destroy the country.
***Wish I was near one of those bases. It would be a good time to open a food and drink establishment just outside the base.***
“Outside the base” at Guantanamo, the example they used, is Cuba. Probably why they will do it there first.
Fried pickles w/ranch dressing—yum! We should post a petition that Moochelle go through basic training on the rations she prescribes for everyone else. It would be so enlightening for her. Limitation of caloric intake for active children and young adults is particularly egregious.
It seems to me that anyone whose health care is being paid for by my taxes should be encouraged to eat healthy. Which could be everyone by and by.
I agree!! The only calories besides the canola oil is the ranch dressing. Still not much and pickles are still considered vegetables.
Time to #starvethemilitary! Let’s die!
Nanny State PING!
During Airborne training in the mid 1970s, I ate four large cheese burgers every day for lunch and similar portions for breakfast and dinner. Must have put away 10,000 calories a day and put on about 5-6 pounds of muscle in three weeks.
You can’t eat enough ‘healthy’ food and get the calories neede to continue traimg at that level.
How long before vodka is declared the national drink?
I posted this in another place, but everything this man stands for is much easier to comprehend, and to predict, if you look at it through the lens of retribution.
The US became great through slavery, and like all other imperial powers, must either revert to the mean, or worse.
It’s a War on Whitey. Businesses see Obama as making war on them. 2A advocates see it as Obama vs. Vets see it as Obama vs.
The easiest, clearest way to say it is that Obama is about retribution - starting from returning Churchill’s bust, to dragging his feet on the XL pipeline.
Take from the whites, give to the blacks specifically, and to people of color generally.
He’s the rebel slave from Amistad. No more, no less.
There’s an editorial in today’s WSJ about the new Labor Sec. and his idea of what racial discrimination is. Chilling, inexorable stuff.
The GOP can’t call the race card because the press won’t let them. Even Bill Maher is bellyaching about his tax bill (he doesn’t see it either, that he was a useful idiot in his scheme to punish whites).
Jamie Foxx went out recently and declared that blacks were the most talented people on earth, and his an admin insider. This whole thing is about race retaliation.
My Squadron’s mess hall at Clark Air Base in the Philippines in 1962 was an abomination, but there were snack bars scattered around that sprawling base. In Angeles, the town outside the base, boasted very few eating establishments. I understand that’s all changed now. My daughter reported that things were pretty much the same at Bagram but there were a lot of US chains just a few years ago.
“It seems to me that anyone whose health care is being paid for by my taxes should be encouraged to eat healthy. Which could be everyone by and by.”
Which is precisely why socialism always leads to dictatorial tyranny. Your “seems to me” really is nothing more than saying, “you must bend your will to my preference.”
No thank you. I was bestowed my unalianable rights by my creator, of which is not you!
I was not in the number of those crying that. There are no words of phrases in any language in the history of the world to adequately express my contempt for those who uttered that cry.
No way to attain and maintain fighting weight and muscle mass on that crap.
In addition to having some sort of mental disease by which you want to have every aspect of everyone's daily lives dictated by the federal government, you should know that the correct word to be used in your comment is "healthily".
Eating "healthy" is not healthy.
You left off the sarcasm tag.
So don't pay for my health care. I didn't want you to, won't accept it, and leave my dinner plate the he** alone.
This one size fits all stupid crap is already affecting the health of school aged children in my family, and that will affect them for the rest of their life.
If you want the eggs bad/eggs good, butter bad/butter good crowd to dictate what you eat, go for it. Leave me and mine out of the "guidance" of people who dash back and forth in fits and fads and assume everyone's nutritional needs are the same. They haven't got it right yet, and I'd rather not be just another lab rat.
Is that you Mayor Bloomberg?
Thanks for the ping!
