If I had a son who wanted to marry another man, a toaster, or a favorite novel, that wouldn’t make me willing to pretend that any of those pairings is a real marriage.
Why do these politicians think that they can change a moral fundamental just because one of their relatives has fallen to that sin? As Hillary might say, “What difference does it make?” Is marriage an agreement between a man and a woman, or not? Some would say: a man, a woman, and God. It has always been defined as such, and what Sen. Portman’s son does doesn’t change it.
My brother was gay (died of likely AIDS). My ex’s son is gay. We had very good gay friends. Our individual relations and associations do not redefine the institution of marriage.
That is so intellectually lazy. The only reason for gays to ‘get married’ is to have society accept their sexual acts as equivalent to natural copulation. They are not.
Marriage, ordained by God, is a sacred commitment to having children (naturally - not by petri dish/egg & sperm donation) to raise in love and spirituality.
Sadly, in this modern age, too many heterosexual couples have abandoned the sanctity of marriage. Since homosexuality is a sin in all religions - how can anyone find a rationale for gay marriage? Society’s acceptance is the only answer.
