The original intent of the founders was for the Senate to represent the states, that is why each state has 2 senators no matter how big or small they are. The house represents the people.
Now they both represent themselves and nobody else.
NO there is no perfect plan because man is imperfect.
I do believe that letting the state legislatures pick them would work best even if the corrupt state of Nevada gets to keep Dingy. . . . . . .

The Senate still serves it’s purpose by giving equal suffrage to states irregardless of their population. The people of the states are “the states” as far as I’m concerned. To hell with state GOVERNMENTS. The people elect the state governments but need their betters in elective office to choose the Senators? Cause as retarded as the average person is a politician would choose better? That’s rich.

The State governments are not better or more noble than the federal government. Governments at all levels suck.
An electorate of only politicians would be horrendous. You have to look at reality, not an idealized fantasy world that can’t exist. What would you say is the most conservative state? Probably Utah, were the GOP legislature would have been certain to reelect RINO Senator Bob Bennett while the people chose conservative Mike Lee. How about Texas where the people just elected conservative Ted Cruz? Almost every Republican in the legislature endorsed RINO David Dewhurst. It would lead to worse and less accountable Senators from both parties, in almost every state, period.

How wonderful the founders intended the constitution to be changed when needed.
