Good morning (or whenever you get time to read it) and good night Ma ((HUGS))

Prayers continue for you and your mom, and for safe and easy passage for your dad.

FYI - About 7 years ago, when Mr. Beachy and I downgraded to smaller house and began our road to "being debt-free" I canceled my life insurance and got LongTerm Care policies instead. We'd heard how a nursing home or assisted living could wipe out your assets. We figured we'd have enough money in the savings (after paying off debts) to pay for a funeral (which is a lot cheaper than years in nursing home), when the time came, but if something happened to one or the other which required assistance, we didn't want that expense to drain our finances...my mother has several aunts who are in the mid 90s. My dad's mother was in assisted living for 10 years - give or take a few years.

I think if people can afford it they should have the LongTerm Care (not cheap). If however they have a large amount of debt, the life insurance may be best to protect surviving family. Anyhoo, just FYI for everyone reading it. In the current environment we cannot and should not depend on the government programs to take care of us.

Thanks, beachy...((HUGS))...important info. Had I known some of this 10 years ago, I would have done the same thing, although I will still check for 65+ folks.

And we are going to go over our Living Wills, and Power of Attornies, and make sure that more than one person is listed. I can make all the medical decisions, but yesterday was unable to make final arrangements as I am not on that POA.

I HAVE in the last two weeks made sure I had POA for Medicare and Aetna.
