Senate Committee Approves Assault Weapons Ban

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved a renewed assault-weapons ban, advancing the measure to the Senate floor where it will face intense resistance from Republicans and other gun-rights supporters.

The bill was approved by the committee on a party-line, 10-8 vote. Chief sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said she knows "the road is uphill" for the legislation, but sought to press her colleagues to consider the bill.

"Are we going to stand with the thousands of police chiefs and law enforcement officers who do support this bill? Are we going to stand with the victims of gun violence?" she said, stressing that the bill does not take "any weapons away from anybody" but would ban future purchases.

Republicans, though, described the legislation -- which comes nearly a decade after the last assault-weapons ban expired -- as an ineffective response to a genuine problem.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., noted that so-called assault weapons are used in a scant percentage of murders every year and said a ban would merely provide a "false sense of safety." He critiqued another

If the Republicans had held the House in 2006 and 2008, Obamacare would be dead, too. Zero needed a super majority in the Senate and a majority in the House to pass Obamacare, something he had for less than 2 years. He'd need a super majority to pass an AWB, too. The numbers just aren't there now. At best an AWB will get passed by the Senate and sent to the House. Where it will die.

All bets are off after January 2015 -- but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the rats do as badly as most lame ducks do in 2nd term mid-terms.

Good. Let’s bring it to a floor vote and see how many Democrats up for re-election actually want to put their names to it

Yep... like this worthless, obamaphiliac POS. We'll see if St. Mark will obey his master in the Blight House or heed the wishes of VA's voters for a change.

I hope you are correct.

The Baraqqis are converting OFA (which we have to say was quite successful) into a 2014 campaign apparatus to take the House.

If they can pull it off, the 2015/6 period will complete the transition to socialism.

I hope the NRA and some big money Republican donors do their level best to put Feinstein out of office in the 2014 elections. It won’t be easy, and it won’t be cheap, and it will have to start very early, but the resounding message it would send through the senate is clear and unambiguous.

And what would that do?

They already flout the Constitution at will. We are no longer a Republic; but still those who think they can work within the ‘system’.

The courts, paid by the same gov’t they are to reign in the power grabs (HA) vs. usurping powers themselves.

The People should have been rioting in D.C. in ‘34 and with every other nibble of our Rights. I’m afraid it’s much too late now.

This is little else to do, other than leave the country.

If it is at that point, where do you plan to go?

Oh, if enough finally had enough I’d be willing to be on the front line; I currently have no kids to burden with $1M in debt out of the womb.

But I’m done with the boiler plate (e)mail replies, unanswered phone calls.

Since nobody, in my lifetime(that I know about) has been run out on a rail; let alone tarred and feathered, the ammo box is about all I’m stocking up (when I can FIND ‘em).

Our Country is no longer Free. Not when our politicians berate the base, ones’ own labor (income taxes near indentured servitude) and possessions are routinely stripped from their owners (property tax, takings, etc.) and even the most basic of Rights (especially one that ‘shall not be infringed’) are hoops to jump through to ask permission (licenses) from those that SERVE We the People.
