There were two important developments over the last hundred years that have led us to this...

1. The redefinition of a “crime” to mean simply breaking the law.

2. Judicial activism. Redefining laws by twisting the language or creating new law from the bench.

It used to be that a “crime” had a victim, a perp, and damage done. Everything else was just considered public nuisance misdemeanors. We now have “felonies” where there is no victim or damage other than to the law itself. Anathema to a “Republic” based on freedom.

It used to be that a judge looked at the facts of a case and made a decision on if they fit. Further, if the law itself was within the rightful limits of governing power. The jury was to back him up on this. We canned the “reasonable man” standard and are now using precedent as a dodge for doing what is right. All for the sake of politics rather than any real sense of justice.

Now, we have what Jefferson warned us against...

“Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’ because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.” -Thomas Jefferson

And this is about as clear a violation of our Rights as we have EVER seen.

Ever notice how this phony crap labeled “judicial activism” always rules in favor of tyranny and perverts? There are so many corrupt lawyers in the legal system there is no way out. The lawyers run every branch of government. They have put us in this mess and they profit hugely from every new law and regulation.

Um . . . . . . . I’m lost. I don’t understand what brought on your post. My post to Vaquero was an attempt to help him understand why there are laws that would prevent Senator Cruz from being able to run for POTUS because he does not meet the requirement of NBC.

With respect to your argument about laws and how they have changed over the past century, I have no comment other than to say that it is ultimately OUR fault that judges and legislators have been allowed to twist the judicial system into knots.

We OWN this government lock, stock and barrel and until we all understand what that means and we all wrest control of our government back from the left, judicial activists and leftist legislators will continue to make our judicial system a mess.

We are already seeing the consequences of giving certain people an excuse for violating our laws. Those people are illegal aliens and, not only do our elitist politicians not want them prosecuted under our existing laws, they want to reward them for ignoring and violating our laws by making them citizens. This is what we are perpetrating everytime some politician talks about “comprehensive immigration reform”.

And, that approach to our system of laws is slowly bringing our society from an ordered and responsible one to a system in which too many people hold our legal system in disdain. From here, our next stop is chaos!

Excellent and true. We lost a lot in the transition from peace officer to law enforcement officer.
