Labour MP David Lammy has apologised after accusing the BBC of being racist following its tweet which said "LIVE VIDEO: Chimney of Sistine Chapel as conclave votes for #Pope - will smoke be black or white?"
Lammy replied saying: "This tweet from the BBC is crass and unnecessary. Do we really need silly innuendo about the race of the next Pope?"
However, after receiving several messages alerting him to the fact that black smoke appears from a Vatican chimney when no decision has been made, and white smoke alerts the public to the election of a new Pope, the politician realised his mistake.
He tweeted: "Note to self: do not tweet from the Chamber with only one eye on what you're reading. Sorry folks, my mistake."

Even as Twitter users rushed to explain the smokes colour showed if a new Pontiff had been elected or not, he ranted: Its the juxtaposition of Pope and black and white.
Would either of you happen to know who is managing the “Racist Papal Smoke” pinglist?
It sounds like he was making a joke to me.
So that’s what a dorkfish looks like.
(Thanks, Bill Engvall!)
His apology suggested to me that he was being serious in his earlier tweets.....and he hasn’t (yet) claimed to be making a joke. The twitter users rushing to help him out in his misunderstanding also seemed to think he was being serious too.
I do give him credit for apologizing and admitting his mistake, however.....something Leftists almost never do.
This racist dumbass really wants the black and white smoke replaced with rainbow colors.
He's braindead, Jim.
Make it stop!!
See?
res ipsa loquater, baby!
(or if this is satire, it is up there with ya, dude)
Racists are the same everywhere, apparently.
One user replied to the MP: Do you not know how the fact that a pope has been chosen is signalled? White=new pope black=no decision. Basic general knowledge.
However, Mr Lammy was undeterred and sent another message which said: It's the juxtaposition of Pope and black and white. But maybe I'm just weary of the endless discussion of race[?].
(Edit)
Mr Lammy famously came last when he appeared on Celebrity Mastermind while he was minister for higher education.
When asked, which king succeeded Henry VIII to the throne, Mr Lammy replied, "Henry VII".
A man of the people.
Dork.

And he was minister for higher education?
You should see their minister of lower education.
What a maroon!
Do we need more evidence that that truly is the only thing that matters to them?

An apology really doesn’t cut it since the offense wasn’t so much an accusatory and ignorant tweet as it was the ongoing and continual offense of being profoundly stupid. As a stupid person, this individual will be a constant burden on society long after the tweet in question is forgotten, and for that serious transgression, there is no adequate apology.
