Well, quiet little towns in NY have been known to produce some interesting types.
John Brown, of Harper's Ferry notoriety, had a farm in the Adirondacks (near Lake Placid) when he was hung for "treason" by the state (Commonwealth?) of VA.
A presidential assassin (Garfield or McKinley) was once part of the sex cult/commune in Oneida, NY.

When a person is executed by having a rope tied around his or her neck and then dropping through a trap door, that person is said TO HAVE BEEN HANGED!
