A California preschool teacher is facing felony charges after she allegedly drugged toddlers with a sleep aid.
KTVU reports 59-year-old Deborah Gratz was arrested on child endangerment charges after she was fired from her job at the Kiddie Academy preschool in Morgan Hill.
A witness told authorities they observed Gratz putting an unknown substance into the drinking cups of the children in her classroom, who range in ages 1 to 2.
Police say when administrators confronted Gratz, she admitted putting an over-the-counter sleeping aid "Sominex" into the kids' drinks. None of the children drank from the cups the day the incident was reported.

Investigators said they were still working on a motive.
I take in the investigators have not spent day after day in a room with 1-2 year olds.
Note: I am not claiming it is justification, only motive.
LOL. The thought also crossed my mind.
Parents might not do it, but more than a few have thought about it...
I think the left put mind-altering drugs in the drinking water in California, Vermont,......Makes them unable to think logically.
“Zanny the Nanny” really does exist!
There have been a few stories in the past about daycares doing something like this. There was one in Rhode Island (IIRC) where the kids got a Benadryl “treat” after lunch or something like that.
This case is a little scarier, though. I would think that the chance of a 2 year old ingesting an adult’s sleeping pill having an overdose reaction is pretty high.
Paregoric used to be legal you know. Mothers everywhere used it to knock their kids out so they could get some sleep or time alone
Wasn’t W.C. Fields accused of putting whiskey in Baby LeRoy’s juice to make him more docile and less annoying on the set?
For those that haven’t been around when I was a single dad it was my favorite time of my life.. I retired from my business to raise my kids.. I remember clearly being sad when my little guys took their naps in the afternoon..
Maybe it was because it took away my excuse not to do my other chores, but I would do most of my stuff with them as a game.. All but one of my children are great cooks as a result of our game every day preparing dinner and lunch.. They went shopping with me every day.. They sat in the basket as we picked out stuff..
We picked out vegetables and fruits as I taught them in a fun way what was great tasting and fun to play with, like broccoli. mushrooms, celery, and carrots.. Then I made them help me make stuff with those foods, which they ate, and learned to love eating with healthy dips..
lol...”Ok kids...everyone hold your ‘nap cloth’ to your nose and take a nice, deeeeeep, sleepy-time breath!”
which is precisely why I head to the garage after the first hour the grandchildren have been at the house.
That’s ok, the ability to buy the nice house thanks to my wife working more than makes up for a little drugging of my babies.
So glad I never left my little ones in the care of strangers.
When my daughter was a year old, she had to have some out-patient surgery on her feet. The doctor said it would be painful on her for the first day or so, and probably keep her awake that night.
I asked if he was going to proscribe something for the pain. He said if she wakes up crying, give her a glass of orange juice with a teaspoon of vodka in it. He said it was just as effective and far safer than trying to figure out the proper dose of some medication for a kid that age.
It worked like a charm. She downed that mini-screwdriver, belched, got a big smile on her face and then laid back and slept through the night.
