ST. PAUL, Minn. — Community and religious leaders from north Minneapolis spoke out Tuesday against a proposed gun bill at the Capitol.

They say DFL Rep. Debra Hilstrom's bill would hurt communities of color by creating mandatory minimum sentences for gun possession by those who shouldn't have them.

Leroy Duncan, with the anti-violence group Protect Minnesota, said instead of making more people criminals Minnesota should close the loophole on background checks.

"This bill mistakenly misplaces the issue of gun violence on our communities, while failing to even attempt ... to create safer communities in our state," Duncan said.

Let’s not prosecute crime. Let’s go after law abiding citizens.

What Obama's People really think abouit all of this:

They say DFL Rep. Debra Hilstrom's bill would hurt communities of color by creating mandatory minimum sentences for gun possession by those who shouldn't have them.

Gee, don't all the murders of Leshauns and Tamiquas by Treyvons and Fatiquas "hurt communities of color" a bit more than getting the feral Treyvons and Fatiquas off the streets before they murdered a few more of their own people would do?

Actually surprised that this legislation is being championed by a DFLer. If it passes, she’s out of a job.

Every time someone proposes to crack down on the law, someone invariably says, “but this will unfairly affect (my race)”. How many times have we heard that the justice system *must* be unfair because there are more black and hispanic people in prison? Could it be because the people in prison were the ones committing crimes? Nah, it must be racism.

“disparate impact” BS.

next rapists will decry rape laws for having a “disparate impact” on their “lifestyle”.

DFL Rep. Debra Hilstrom

The county her district is in, Hennepin County, is 80% white, 9% black, and has the highest median family income in the state. In other words, yuppie Dems.

I'm guessing her constituents are more concerned about violent crime than about "communities of color"
