Senate Dem budget includes nearly $1 trillion in new taxes

The first budget from Senate Democrats in four years includes nearly $1 trillion in new taxes but would not balance the budget.

The blueprint unveiled by Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) on Tuesday to her Democratic colleagues would also turn off the next nine years of the sequester and replace those spending cuts with a 50-50 mix of tax increases and spending cuts.

The budget would dedicate $100 billion to economic stimulus in the form of infrastructure spending and job training.

Murray argues that her budget cuts $1.85 trillion from deficits over 10 years. But once the sequester cuts are turned off, Murray’s budget appears to reduce deficits by about $800 billion, using the Congressional Budget Office’s baseline. The Murray budget does not contain net spending cuts with the sequester turned off.

The details of Murray’s budget came hours after House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) released his budget, which reduces tax rates and slashes spending much more deeply that Murray’s budget.

The Ryan budget would balance in 10 years without raising taxes and by reducing spending over the next decade by $5.7 trillion compared to the CBO baseline.

Somewhat paradoxically, the new tax bill calls for all male citizens to give up their nuts while, at the same time, it calls for all women to surrender their first-born child.

Regarding the referenced article, what is meant by "new" taxes? I'm disappointed that Erik Wasson of the Hill didn't point out the following about any Senate bill that establishes new taxes if that is what this bill does. The Founding States made the Constituton's Clause 1 of Section 7 of Article I to insure that all appropriations bills must originate in the HoR.

So what am I overlooking?

Also, it wouldn't surpise me if much of the spending proposed by the bill cannot be justified under the Constitution's Section 8 of Article I. Justice John Marshall had officially clarified that Congress cannot lay taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially issues which Congress cannot justify under Section 8.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

You are overlooking the fact that this is a democRAT budget. They don't have to follow the Constitution, especially if it's "for the children".

Amazing how every RAT budget includes increased funds for "job trainig" when they are all about destroying jobs and the economy.

Even if those making over $200,000 were taxed at 100% it wouldn’t raise $1.6 trillion in new tax revenue. So who is going to pay more taxes to get this $1.6 trillion in new tax revenue? Anyone who believed our liar in chief when he said that those making under $200,000 wouldn’t see one dime in new taxes are going to be very surprised.

RE: I though after the first “Stimulus” all our infrastructure was repaired. Wha happin?

From Obama’s own mouth: “Shovel ready jobs were not as shovel ready as we expected...”

TRANSLATION: I did not spend the stimulus on infrastructure, I spent it on placating unions ( teachers, autos ) etc., and other pet projects like cash for clunkers, green energy projects ( e.g. Solyndra ), and buying car companies like GM ( so that I can force them to build the VOLT ).
