Back during the Clinton era, the Democrat faced a choice: support an assault weapons ban urged by a president from his own party and risk angering constituents who cherish their gun rights, or buck his party. He chose the ban, and nearly lost his Senate seat.

[snip]

And he's worked hard over the years to become the only Senate Democrat with an A-plus rating from the National Rifle Association.

If anybody has any doubts about the NRA, this should cement them permanently.

1. Max Baucus, Montana (NRA Rating: A+). Baucus appeared to oppose any federal action on gun law reform, saying in a statement that “Before passing new laws, we need a thoughtful debate that respects responsible, law-abiding gun owners in Montana instead of a one-size-fits all directives from Washington.”

Does that piss you off?

That probably was the last rating Baucus had in 2008. He has since voted to confirm Kagan and Sotomayor, IIRC, and I don't remember any rat defectors. Should I retrieve the roll call votes? That's why Harry Reid was not endorsed by the NRA in 2010 even though Reid helped the NRA get a brand new range in Nevada.
