Eight school buses were stolen from the Far South Side overnight and driven to a salvage yard, where they were cut apart and shredded into a two-story pile of scrap, police said.
The name of the Sunrise bus company could be seen among the shards of metal at SRV Metal Scrapper, 3405 S. Lawndale Avenue, police said. Four people were taken into custody, including the owner of the company.

Several years ago 10,000 DVDs in a warehouse near Nashville disappeared. The trailer and truck that were stolen to haul them in were found near the docks in Miami. No doubt that it was organized crime that took them.

Soon after I replaced a water heater I had a couple of guys ring my doorbell asking if they could take the old one (it was visible from the sidewalk, but you really had to be looking; it was at the far end of a long driveway). I let them have it, but was a bit perturbed that they’d even seen it; they must have been casing homes looking for stuff, and maybe only rang the bell because my car was in front.
This is the “new normal”.
Somebody wanted some new busses, but couldn’t afford them, so they hired some mobsters to steal the old ones & collect the insurance money.
