Ashley Judd target of GOP preemptive strike
Politico ^ | 3/4/2013 | Lois Romano

She’s not even a candidate yet.

But the GOP opposition research machine is already in full froth over what it views as perhaps the juiciest 2014 target: Ashley Judd, who is exploring a challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Republicans are homing in with glee on the actress and activist, picking apart her views and statements and compiling a thick compendium of speeches, writings and tweets. What they found: Judd may not have a legislative record, but she has left quite a paper trail.

This early opposition research effort seems as much about scaring Democrats nationally about a Judd candidacy as informing Kentuckians before Judd even decides to make the race.

“Ms. Judd has a bit of a habit of making bizarre comments and observations that will put Democratic officials and candidates across the country in uncomfortable positions,” said Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. “As for Kentucky, well let’s just say that Ms. Judd’s comments are outlandish for Hollywood, never mind Covington.”

The latest of Judd’s unorthodox views to rise to the surface courtesy of the GOP is a 2006 statement about why she doesn’t have children — which Republicans say will not sit well in Kentucky. “It’s unconscionable to breed, with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries,” Judd said. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), who has been advising Judd, said that the actress was speaking for herself, and added that people in Kentucky understand the word “breeding.”

In a disjointed talk at George Washington University Friday, Judd, 44, may have given her opponents more fodder by referencing U2 rocker Bono, her dog being on a hunger strike and her extravagant travels. “We winter in Scotland. We’re smart like that,” she told students.

I'm trying to figure out how that is supposed to be a defense...maybe I shouldn't waste the energy.

Always liked Ashly Judd (especially since she was from Kentucky - as I am) but when she becomes a leftist politician she has passed the actress realm and gone into the dismissed. Bye, bye, once you enter the world of politics you are destined to lose at least half of your supporters.

Too bad...you used to be known for your acting...

Projection. The DNCmedia is already in "hit mode" trying to tear down ANY contenders for the 2016 GOP nomination.

There's some good old fashioned Kentucky Tennessee California Red Chinese values from Comrade Ashley.

A shame she won't be having any beautiful daughters, although with the brainwashing she'd instill perhaps that's all for the best./strike

special treatment of any kind. Except maybe from her own ilk who want to bone her.

I doubt the naked pics of her will help in Kentucky.

It’s interesting to note Ashley was not born in Kentucky, but in Granada Hills, California. A famous tv show was set in Granada Hills, which was better known as, yup, Knots Landing. Unlike her mama and sister, she has no regional Southern accent. Everything in her attitude and presence is the all-arrogant California White leftist.

Ashley was born as Ashley Tyler Ciminella in Granada Hills, California. She is the daughter of Naomi Judd, a country music singer and motivational speaker, and Michael Charles Ciminella, a marketing analyst for the horseracing industry

She's a popular figure but far too LIBERAL for most Kentucky voters.

And if that don’t work, they own the voting machines.

Yarmuth is scared. The same forces that replaced Mike Ward (D) with Anne Northup (R) in the district he he now holds back in the 1990s are going to come into play again this year.

He needs a well-funded "name" running for Senate in order to inspire Louisville-area Progressives to turn out to counter the increased turnout from South End "Bitter Clingers" (gun control) and East End affluents (who are starting to see what ObamaCare is all about, in a city with a huge medical presence) and the usual off-year depressed turnout from West End "ObamaPhone" users.

This democrat moron will win what ever election she runs in..She loves and prases Obama..We all know Obama has a way of helping his ignorant friend win..here is what she says about Obama

She said Obama moved her to tears: “I think that he is a powerful leader. I think he’s a brilliant man. I think that he has an incredible devotion to our constitution. And that he is now able to flower more as the president I knew he could be.”

And: “I was extremely proud of his statement about gay marriage, for example, because he didn’t need to do that. He was just displaying his values and his belief in equality. And that moved me to tears.” When asked about Romney, she could only say, “To be perfectly honest, I haven’t paid that much attention to him, because I’m so into my guy.”

Yarmuth seems to be pushing her.

He is the local commie from Kentucky. He gets enough votes from the uber-liberal parts of Louisville like the Highlands to keep his seat in the House. But he can not beat Mitch in a statewide Senate race. So he needs Ashley to win the seat first with her star power and then he can slide into or go after Paul’s seat later.

I do not believe Ms. Judd is doing this solely on her own. She is being pushed by local and national politicians to leverage her star power.

They probably figure if they can Al Franken elected Ms. Judd would be a shoe-in. After all, Franken never looked that good in a hockey jersey!

She has the required liberal academic pedigree.
Ashley Judd (Kennedy School) 2010

After establishing a strong career as an actor, Ashley Judd chose to go back to school to get a Mid-Career Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. She has been an active humanitarian working with Population Services International and YouthAIDS and traveling around the world to work with these causes.

I think a lot of national Dem consultants are pushing for her as well, seeing even a losing Judd for Senate campaign as a hugh cash cow fueled by massive Hollywood donations.

Everything I’ve seen or heard from her indicates she’s little more than a typical vapid Hollywood starlett type that has built a career upon the foundation laid by her mom and sister.

The problem may be restraining the impulse to club her like a baby seal, which would allow the Dems to play the victim card and gain a fair amount of sympathy.

One more thing to add. I was reading recently that, apart from Yarmuth, KY Dems are pretty nervous about a Judd candidacy, thinking that her unrepentent Liberalism will hurt downticket KY Dems, who (apart from Yarmuth) are more Conservative and will have to run away from her.

I don’t know how the nomination process works in KY, but either a nominating convention or a primary is going to cause her problems, not only because she’s so Liberal but also because there are more than a few state Dems who have probably Bern waiting years for their shot at a Senate seat.

The other Democrat that could use Judd in office is Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson. He is the former mayor of Louisville. He is a good leader and would be a good governor. But his statewide draw would be a challenge. The rest of the state usually will not go for a Louisville candidate. So Judd in office could help him when it comes time for his governor run.

Her strong ties to the University of Kentucky are a positive that could overcome a lot of concerns about her liberal views. Blood - blue blood - will be thicker than political views for a lot of people in the state.

I will say that her and Clooney at least walk their talk on their liberal views. Was not happy with George backing Obama again. But also liked that he condemned the attacks on Palin’s kids when others did not.

I do not think that the KY liberal actors guild are that way just to get invited to parties like Damon and Affleck.
